Astro-Coin was created by Werry in the 1950s--it had a different title. Both the Tenyo and Royal versions are copies.
This is an easy trick to copy because it's simple to make. |

This looks like a knock-off of Super Phanto Block using a die instead:
http://www.magictricks.com/impossible-die-escape.html Does anyone have this? |

I have that version and it works fine. Super Phanto block has a clever addition that allows everything to be freely examined at the end. There are tons of versions of that effect available. Not sure who originally invented the idea... not even sure it was original to Tenyo. Tricks Co. put out a nice version with a metal tube years ago and seemed to claim it as original.

On this demo of Impossible Die Escape, the performer, who sounds like Sean Connery, says at the end that "everything can be passed out and examined."
http://youtu.be/ydAnMy3iZvo That's not true? Thanks, Walter |

The only addition made to Super Phanto Block by Tenyo is the mechanism that allows it to be examined by the spectator.

I would not hand out all the pieces together... spectator would likely discover something. Tenyo's clever addition allows everything to be examined at the end.

The secret to allowing everything to be examinable is quite subtle.... not something you could see in a photo

Yes but in the picture there is a piece/gimmick that you don't see when the trick is done. I will probably kick myself if I ever get the trick and find out the method.

It is a good trick Walter... actually one of my Tenyo favorites. If you see one at a good price I would buy it.

It is one of my favorites as well. I am always entertained by watching the spectator try to put the 3 pieces together in every way imaginable in hopes of duplicating the effect. They know there has to be a simple explanation but they can never find it.

Walter,
I recently purchased this one, and I had originally underestimated how clever this is. I used to have the old Royal Magic Phanto Tube- this is head and shoulders way better! The 'Tenyo Touch' to this classic trick really makes it killer. No palming, easy to do, baffling, and fully examinable! |

Thanks. If the latest auction doesn't go too high, I will get it.
