Okay, I need the 10 step program. I've become a gaffaholic. I have spent less money than one or two good sets, but now own many.
I can't seem to stop. I have hopping halves, 2 copper 1 silver, CSB, several scotch and soda sets, magnetic copper silver, ultimate copper silver, coin through card, flipper, folding coin, cig through coin, lethal tender, dream coin set, chinatown half, china change, nickels to dimes, dynamic coins, and more. It seems like I'm always looking for the next set. Most of my sets were bought here or on eBay, and are Johnson sets. Now I want Cartel Coins. When does it end?

Since you've taken the first step - at least in abstract by using the term "gaffaholic", you are in a place to ask yourself if this need for gaffs is in any way preventing you from otherwise enjoying your life. If it's just a hobby or mild obsession you are fine and can rest assured that there will be novel gaffs created for coin tricks as long as there are coins and people who enjoy seeing or doing tricks. If you feel it's a problem - some time spent learning how to make magic using just ordinary coins and props can help give some perspective on when gaffs will serve in context.
As to the cartel coins - you can ask the guy who offers that product what I thought of the idea and what can be done with that kind of gaff. If you can, perhaps phlye would be another option along those lines. Again I suggest you ask Chastain what would do for you. So, do you have one of my Chinatown gaffs? Sassco has permission to make those. How about an expanded Dusheck gaff w/wo lock? Oh the things you can do when you have the right presentation and the right props to make the magic.
Enjoy, Jon

Hey, Jon. I am actually enjoying it. Just pretending to need help. I think I've become a collector. I have all the coin makers and suppliers bookmarked and check often to see what is new.
Oddly enough I don't practice much with the gaffs, I still practice mostly with normal coins. Now that I have most set/gaff types I think I will buy some DVDs for extra routines vs. the standard routine that comes with these sets. My curiosity gets the best of me and I buy when I see a good deal. I've not spent that much even with the large collection, and it has been spread over two years. The Chinatown set I have is from Johnson. A couple of sets I forgot to mention in the first post: Foreign exchange (or coin alchemy), Digital Dissolve, Coin Unique, $2.85 sets (Johnson and Sasco), $1.35 set, vodka and orange juice, gin and tonic, and dime and penny. I would like an expanded, sliding, locking [. Is that the Dusheck gaff you referenced?

Kelvin,
I feel your pain and joy! There are a lot worse vices than collecting gaff coin sets. I enjoy my collection very much, even the ones I will never use. One thing I did was make a spreadsheet of what I have and what I paid. If I get hit by a bus, I want my wife to know what she's got and what it's worth. I think there are enough of us gaffaholics here on the Café that we could create a cybersupport group. Sammy

Sadly, I have a spreadsheet too. Only it has everything and those I own are highlighted. So I can also see what I'm missing.

There's probably a lot of folks here that feel your pain. -)
It might be dangerous for me to have a spreadsheet showing what I *don't* have - I'd find it too tempting to fill in the blocks, like getting all the coins that fill up a coin collection book. You just gotta' have that 'one' to complete the collection! -) Larry |

David, keep pushing.
I'll keep buying. Let's see... I should start a thread for requested new routines from David Neighbors. 1. New routines for Cerberus. 2. New routines for Lassen mini TWIAD I could go on... Regards, Alan |

David,
PM me or say it out loud here if you want. Which gaff sets do you have original routines for?

Kelvin, you will love the cartel coins. Brilliant idea. I can't believe no one else thought of it before.
Did you get the regular set or the Morgan set? |

BanzaiMagic,
I got the regular set. A member tipped me that they are on sale at Madhatter magic. $60 for coins and DVD. I'm glad I waited to buy this one. I was ready to pay twice that when they were first released.

I just bought my cartel set used on EBay for about the same price or else I would have joined you. If it's up long enough I might break down and buy it just to get two more gaffs.

Madhatter must be taking a loss on these, though I can't believe they would willing do so unless they hope buyers purchase other items too. I did add one other small item to my order.
If they can sell them this low without losing money why aren't any other shops following suit? I don't see any "Cartel wars" yet. I'm happy I found out and once again am glad to be a member of this community. Always getting good advice here.

This isn't the first time with Madhatter doing something like this. I don't think the deal will last long, though.
