Dave V. wrote; Of course I didn't mean you could substitute duct tape, I was just mentioning that wardrobe alterations (if any, but I hear none are required) could be made using tape. I affix pins to heavy leather by replacing the pin with a neo magnet and duct taping a matching magnet on the back side of the leather. No holes, and it stays firmly in place. If you're a Star Trek:TNG fan, it works pretty much like their communicator badges. [/quote]___________________________________________________________ I really like your idea as well, I had assumed you meant affixing duct tape externally on the body. My bad. Many thanks for sharing your idea Mr. Dave! How are you doing Dr. Ayala and Pete? |

Whilst performing "Nut Waltz" does allow the performer to showcase some superior sleight of hand skills, it doesn't have the humour that is built into Pete's "Nutty Suprise". Performing "Nut Waltz" as in the video will still require some command of the basic sleights found in any decent cups and balls routine. For the moment, I am performing "Nutty Suprise" until such a time as I add some personal touches to Mariano's effect, that make it more than just a showcase. It requires something in the manner of humour. There is something inherently humorous about walnuts already, but I still need something more. I'm hoping that once folks start receiving them, some new ideas will spring forth. For now, I have Pete Biro's effect, up and running in my sets. Thanks for sharing R.P. Wilson's idea, "The Spoon/Nut Vanish". It was nice talking with you this afternoon Pete! Great job! |

D-Man... you D-man...
you have it right. Walnuts should be fun and loose. Half-a-dozen of the regular's at Dean Dill's Shoppe have all added funny lines and bits with my routine. It keeps growing. Mainly as it doesn't require much skill, and the final Nut Surprise is so easy and a fooler. Simon Coronel, FISM WINNER, added a nice finishing touch. With the bag ready for the reveal of the HUGE STEEL NUT, he suggests putting two of the walnuts in your pocket, put the 3rd back in the glass and cover with handkerchief. Say, "Hold out your hand, palm up, and I'll cause the nut to appear in your hand." Pick up bag and hold over her hand, lower gently, just letting bag touch her palm. Count to three and on three let big nut drop onto her palm. "Did you feel it arrive?" She'll say, "Yes." Others think it will be a walnut, but when you lift the bag it's the one pound steel nut. osted: Nov 15, 2011 5:10pm Here's a demo.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn2tyhLRrvs&feature=feedu

After following 7 pages of posts starting in May, I realize that interest in Walnuts are more common than not. I decided to toy with other ideas and the simplest was multiplying walnuts. Withe very little modification I performed the effect just like billiard balls. They are easier to handle than billiards due to the uneven contour of the shells. I can wind up with four in one hand identical to multiplying balls.
Every aspect of loads and shifts work well. I will be adding this to my next Parade in Genii. Now, I am using walnuts right out of Walmart (lol), but I imagine if I had some of the fabricators of the nuts make a proper shell, it would be really cool. Although, I must say, that I made a set within a few minutes and some choice continuity on the nut size.

I had a fantastic reception last night at the table doing NUTTY SURPRISE... I like it better than cups and balls, chop cup, etc., as the Nuts lend themselves to so many gag lines. And it's angle proof, and requires LITTLE SKILL.

It didn't need it, but I did decide to slightly bevel the edges. It really didn't make much of a difference. If I wanted perfection, I would do a little digging. It worked just fine, out of the bag, tasted good too.
I did use slightly smaller ones for the productions.

Pete -- Is the original "Soup to Nuts" routine is also included in the new "Nutty Surprise" version of the trick? SETH

I do like the humorous element to Nutty Surprise, this is a very nice piece of magic. The Nut Waltz looks like more work and less fun, the mood of the piece is a little somber and aloof for walnuts.
That being said, I really did NOT appreciate the crappy treatment of Nut Waltz on the Wizard Product Review. This is certainly a fine idea for a trick, going back to Dai Vernon, and also the routine development and sleight of hand is quite sophisticated. The reviewers basically turn this into 15 minutes of double entendres. They ended up looking like Beavis and Butt-Head up there giggling about the word nuts. I suppose the fanboyz want exploding coins or something but there is really no good reason for this review. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCPJe_5uB......embedded |

NUTTY SURPURISE includes the Soup to Nuts routine. You just get a soup can to use instead of the bag supplied. Bag was developed to do the giant steel nut load silently and without sleight of hand. The video clips include handling with a plain glass and handkerchief if you want to travel light.

Just received Nutty Surprise in the mail from RNT2, and I wanted to comment about the quality of the material that is provided.
These days, you're usually lucky if the instructions for something are more than half a page long. Not so with NS. In addtion to a full description of the basic routine, the booklet is chock full of tips and extra ideas. The combo of the written instructions and the DVD demos works perfectly. And to top it off, there is a additional "after release" pamphlet that contains even more goodies. End result: the basic concept, which was already pretty good to start with, has been polished a few times until it really gleams. I am also a great believer in the "kicker" approach to the finale of a trick, so I appreciated Pete's thinking in that regard. While some retailers are always trying to sell less stuff for more money, Pete is obviously trying to give full value for money received, and then some. Congrats on this approach! One final thought -- most magicians are always looking for something "new." Sometimes it's better to look for something "old" and then try to figure out how it might be updated/improved/streamlined. That's what Pete and company have done here, with great results. SETH

Thanks for your kind words. You will find performing this is very easy, and there's lots of room for chat as you work through. The multiple choices for the kicker make it so you can adapt to almost any working conditions.

One final thought -- most magicians are always looking for something "new." Sometimes it's better to look for something "old" and then try to figure out how it might be updated/improved/streamlined. This is why I take regular looks at my magic book collection, in the older books, for ideas. Hardly any magician these days performs older material or has even looked at it, let alone studied it. That being the case, you can really floor some magicians out there with that kind of material, and I love doing that. Best of all, it is done with material that is practically hidden in plain sight... Ian: Great job on the multiplying walnuts! I will have to try that! |

Pete Biro's Nutty surprise arrived some days ago safe and sound.
I needed a couple of days to go through the book and all the DVD files. What an amount of inspiring material! I was using O'Neill's Completely Nuts props with Vernon / Riser routine and as I've already said I started recently working whith Mariano's new subtleties that I love. Now I have more imputs to work with. Working on a personal routine now that involve some "surprise" too! Thanks Pete and Dill for sharing! |

Thanks Pete, I've got in touch with your/my friend Martin Kaplan. Will meet in Valencia or Madrid some day.
Something else about the "nuts" theme: "Fruit & Nuts" Wayne Dobson & Colin Rose with a bunch of small steel nuts as a final load. Just in case some one may find it useful within the "nuty surprise" plot. |

Cava,
It's interesting you mentioned small steel nuts, I place a bunch of nuts around a magnet and form a clump for a final load. It's an easy matter to remove the magnet from the clump and let the nuts spill out onto the table surface. The audience is perplexed as to how I managed to load a bunch of free steel nuts into the glass. Test the idea with your crowds and you will see, Both the large nut and the smaller ones create a unique visual on the table, El Mago Sencillo |
