Will a hank of rope from the hardware store work well enough for tricks that require cutting the rope. I would like to save the good stuff for tricks that allow it to be reused.

Thanks Mike

They do not sell cotton core rope at the hardware store, so for my taste the hardware store rope is too stiff, and does not make the magician look very good. Generally magicians rope cost's $.10 a foot, and a magician charges $100's of dollars per show. How cheap can you be that you can't afford to spend $1. a show for decent rope?

If you must use the stuff from the hardware store you can soak it in boiling water to remove a lot of the starch. This will make it more plyable and easier to use. You can also remove the core which would make it easier to cut.

But really, why be so cheap? As Al pointed out Magician's rope costs very little and its expense is just part of doing business.

The plastic core in the hardware store clothes line does not look very professional, and if you remove the core the rope would resemble a flat tire.

The low priced cotton or synthetic is only $8 to $10 FOR 50'.
