I'm looking for a portable amp/speaker that I saw this weekend. I believe it was made by sony, but I'm not sure. It looked like a par can and had the stand/bar that you would attach it to truss with.
Anyone know the name or where to get it?

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. Visualize Whirled Peas! |

No, that wasn't it. It looked like an actual par can. Take a par can, put some dials on the back and a speaker grill on the front. that's what it was like. It was a powerful little speaker.

My guess is that it was something homemade, but there are many wonderful and portable speaker systems out there.

I think you are talking about the Fender Amp Can which is discontinued. Here is a link and a picture

I have seen some of these from time to time on the big auction site. Seems like they were $100 or less.
I always thought they were intriguing...

That looks like it, except everything was on the back.
I did find cheap ones from an no-name brand on ebay that have the same features.

I tested the Amp Can when it came out and it sounded pretty bad. Here's what I recommend:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/37......tor.html It has the best sound of any small PA I've tried. I use it for 85% of my shows. B&H Photo is also a great store to deal with. I buy tons of photo equipment from them. Michael |

Similar to Michael's choice, I have been using the Roland Micro Cube since it came out with great results. Here is a link to it: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Roland-Micro......29480232
This thing is great for clarity, no "tinny" sounding amp here. It can run for approximately 20 hours on six AA Batteries and it has an 1/8" stereo jack in the back for an MP3 Player or computer and is very portable. I love this thing! |

By the way, I neglected to mention that it is also a rockin' practice amp for guitar ;-)

The Happy amps work great too.
