Not to belabor the subject in regards to Sean Scott, seeing that has been covered already, to say the least, on another thread. But, in all honesty I had never heard of him before or had seen any of his effects before Render. I finally took the time to look at his site, his tricks and demo’s. All I can say.....well, maybe its best not to say anything.

Or maybe, just maybe because they have an exclusive deal on the product? Just a thought...

For once, I would like to see someone getting a bad review to say, "Hmm, I guess I need to take it up a notch. How could I improve this trick, or should I scrap it?"
I was once involved in a guy bringing a trick to market. I concluded the trick had already been released, or something very similar, and the trick as he had it was pretty much unworkable. But it was his "baby" so he was determined to have all sorts of custom props made for a trick that went nowhere. Feedback (especially informed feedback) at the development stage is critical, as is the ability to admit to yourself, "This just isn't working." |

When Dave and I started the show we wanted to make sure that above all else we are honest with what we think. We may not always be right but we are always honest. In fairness we have reviewed some stuff in the past and given it a bad review and creators have contacted us thanking us. Of course on the flip side you get people like Justin Miller and Sean Scott. They didn't take what we said well at all! Craig |

OK...
Let me see if I have this right: A creator puts out an effect that might not be totally worked out enough for the "real world" and might have been misleading with his promo video, and definitely failed to make it clear in his Ad Copy that everything shown on the demo was NOT included with the purchase of his effect. A lot of Café members questioned him on it, myself included, and many of them who purchased the effect called him out on several aspects. At first, he copped the, "It must be you guys who have the problem, not me" attitude that is all too prevalent in the magic community, but then, either he takes a step back and really looks at what everyone is saying, including the rough review from Craig & David, and realizes maybe he is the one who needs to take another look at the objections raised. Either that, or one of his close friends B-slapped him and told him to wake up and get a grip! I have to say, I was quite pleasantly surprised by his attitude adjustment, I really did not think he would ever get what myself and others were trying to say. SO...the Magic Café, which is supposed to be a forum by and for the magic community to help each other and make everything better for us all, has the rare occasion where someone puts something out, gets called on the things that are wrong about the effect and/or the way it was represented, and the Café ACTUALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE FOR THE BETTER! So what does the Café do, they pull the thread! POOF! It blinks out of existence, just like magic! Way to go Café...(PLEASE make sure to not the sarcasm here) Hank |

There is much too much crap being released on what seems to be a weekly basis so that is why reviews, and of course a site such as this is so helpful. The most demanding critic, if you’re working on an effect, should be yourself. Squinting your eyes, and or putting on rose colored glasses when releasing a trick is certainly not going to hide the flaws and gain one much faith, trust or respect from the magic community.

The issues some have had with Render are being addressed. Render customers will be receiving an update soon. Included in this update will be the video content some were wanting to be included with Render. They will be available as free downloads, this includes origami.
Also, some video tutorial/reviews will be available for customers to help address other concerns. Thanks, Sean

Sounds good Sean.
Looking forward to your video response to the WPR. Hopefully you won't go batshit crazy like others performers I could mention. Craig |

Ok, would just like to let people know this went out to Render users this morning:
Render users The first update to Render is ready for you to view. This should address concerns I know some of you have expressed in regards to a few issues. The first part of this update includes: - Access to free downloadable content, including origami crane, coin and flower videos. - Access to helpful video tutorials. 1. Gimmick application/modification 2. Gimmick invisibility 3. Production technique review 4. Origami video & performance change 5. Original Render method 6. Coin noise issue 7. Video content I am here to answer or assist customers if they are in need of support or instruction with any aspect of Render. Things like gimmick application, performance, content are just a few areas I am here to help with. Please email me at seanscott@theartofseanscott.com with any questions. I believe Render is a great effect and I want you to have the same experience. The login method has changed for all Render users. For the new method, you will need to create a new account from the SECRET WORK page. This will allow you to set your own password and have it emailed to you if you forget. Please type your tracking # in the comments field of the sign up. Once you have created the account, I will receive an email notice and confirm the tracking #.  You will then receive an authorization email to the SECRET WORK page. I realize many of you have provided the tracking # already. My apologies for any inconvenience, however this should automate the process for future use and allow everyone access to the free downloadable content as quickly as possible. The next update will include more ideas for presentation. An alternate presentation for origami will be part of this update. Thanks again and please keep watching as I will be releasing more promo videos for Render very soon. Best, Sean
