How often do you send out your email newsletter? I've been doing it monthly with occasional every other week mails in between if something comes up. Is that too often?

From what I've read, it sounds like you should send out your email newsletter as often as you can while still providing value. Apparently even twice a month isn't too much if you have something to say.
I'd like to send mine out once a month, but realistically I only have news to send out every 8 weeks or so, so that's what I do. Nobody wants to receive spam. People will respect you more if you respect their inbox. |

I send my email newsletter out once a month. Every so often I'll
do exactly as Edd and send out a special message. But IMO, frequency is totally up to you and the quality of the material you provide. If you send good stuff, people will want to read it. If you send crap and a pitch every day, people will think you're a bozo and opt out. It's totally up to you. Really. And if you send good stuff weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, whatever and they opt out, who cares? Your job is to get out there in front of folks as much as you can in order to drive demand. As Ziglar put it, "the timid salesman has skinny children." Offer quality and don't be shy about it.

Personally, I only email mine out once or twice a year. You may check it out as the newsletter link is right on the home page of my website.
In addition, I tag the end of my email with: ---------- * Our newsletters are issued once or twice a year. To avoid receiving future e-mails from us, please reply back to this message with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. Thank you. Please feel free to forward this email. ----------

And what, if I may ask, is the content of your newsletters? It seems to me you have to include more than just an advertisement for your services.

My rule is 1 out of 4 newsletters are advertisements...
each newsletter is niche specific.. for the birthday party market it is party planning tips, local activities for familyies, any public events I am at, and a coupon

Does sending out newsletters increase business and get the phone ringing, or is it informational only?
I know it gets you name before a potential client, but do you see your bookings increase soon after you send out an email newsletter? |

Howie,
Often when I send out an email newletter, my repeat clients will call me as I jogged their memory. I just sent one out recently and a couple of repeat clients called me about December bookings. I would expect potential clients would be more apt to call if a bonus/gift/discount coupon was included in the email.

Howie,
I've only been sending my newsletter for four months now but in the second month I had put out some information about company picnic planning and I had a client email me and say, "I wish we would have thought about having you come to our company picnic." So, a bit late but next year, I will send this info earlier and hopefully pick up this gig and more. So I can definitely see how a newsletter can make me money. Edd
