I wish I had gotten a copy of Ian Garrison's Dances With Ropes. I cannot find it anywhere now.

Thanks, Bill. I could not find it. Seems to be harder to find now that Ian Garrison is dead... or I was just looking at wrong shops... Smile

The best rope routine is the one you like doing and one you can entertain with.

Mark Leveridge has a Prof Nightmare routine in one of his lecture notes that he uses for magicians where you can throw the ropes out for inspection at the end of the routine showing them ALL equal in length.

No pulls, sleeving, magnetic devices.

He does the regular routine for lay people.

Very interested in this - sounds good. I found the link on Marks's website. Here it is if anyone else wants it:

Have a good weekend.

Your best rope routine is this one: the one where you take months and months to view and study just about everything on ropes.
You start building your routine based on the best.
Next you start innovating, and making it your own over the next five years.
Now you have YOUR best rope miracle!!!

The routine I've been doing for many years for children. It took quite a long time to get all the fun and laughter as the routine flows along. Basically, it can be done with one or two helpers.
It starts out with a small square black box my (Pandora Box). The top lid is open and every time I start to say "boys and girls, this is my Pandora box" the lid slams shut, another time it slams on my fingers, next on my nose when I tried to peek inside. A bundle of rope is taken from the box and as I hand it to the child on my right, it flies back into the box, this is repeated 2 or 3 times.
I now hand one end to the helper, but she is having a bit of problem grabbing hold because the end keeps wiggling up and down.
There you are, just some fun with a piece of rope before the cut and restored. The routine runs 4 to 5 minutes.

I love Tabary too as some partners have said and I like Unplugged by Ruben Vilagrand, a version of Pavel's routine with some extras.

Paul Curry's book "World's Beyond" has some awesome routines including the great, classic trick Doug Henning did on one of his TV specials. Killer Stuff!

I know this is a verrrrry old post but I wanted to comment that this routine Henning did absolutely floored me when I saw it on TV. I don't know that I ever researched the actual method, but what I came up with in my head seemed so far-fetched. Far-fetched enough that it's probably exactly the method used.

Sure it's been mentioned, but....

Great routine but the pamphlet is hard to find.

Recently I did a full show for a convention with lots of very hard hitting magic and very impressive, direct mentalism.
In this show, I did the classic cut and restored rope, but with a thicker rope that was actually quite hard to cut. Once cut, I had two people grab each outer end of the rope, and told them that it was obvious why I could walk through the rope once I released the cut rope ends from my hand. They pulled it out and it stopped me--it was restored. I was told by several people that this trick was their favorite one by far. I think if they can see you sincerely struggling with cutting it, and cutting the rope ends a couple of times, that it is truly cut in two.
Sometimes simple can be great. I also know that each magician should be able to find out what works best for them. A lot has to do with how you perform it and sell it!!!

Recently started practicing "Four Nightmares DX" ropes by Tenyo.
You show two ropes, one short and one long apart and cleanly they instantly turn to long ropes which are shown cleanly and separately. They are tied together and the knot is slid off the rope, leaving one clean long rope. Another knot is loosely tied and is slowly rolled off the rope, into a circular rope loop. Your hand shows the loop openly and cleanly. Next you tie the one rope and the about 6" loop together and they become one rope. Looks like real magic without the, to me overdone, without fiberoptix type of moves. When you make something happen in this routine, it happens cleanly and the rope is shown openly and cleanly, no need to hide it or pinch it in your fingers!!!.
The rope is gimmicked but anything is worth the unbelievable magical look of this routine. I would just secretly switch the rope as I grab some scissors and go into a cut and restored rope routine where they examine it before and when you pass it out after!!!!

I like that. Maybe you could combine it with a rope through body effect as a kicker

In the routine I do for adults and children requires no fancy moves. The rope is just a prop in your hands and how you use it to entertain the audiance is what counts. They don't see the clever moves that you use to cut the rope.
Take the the three coloured rope tied in rings and eventually link together. There is scope here for a ton of fun before the linking.
