To note: Just because Google's scuttling the Translate API doesn't mean that Google's pulling the plug on its Translate Web app. Remember, an API is just a hook–a means for developers to easily integrate a feature package within a third-party site or software. You enter a phrase in a mobile phone app, the API calls back to Google, Google delivers the results, and you see them pop up on your mobile device. Google Translate as consumers commonly know it, the Web app, isn't going anywhere. You'll still be able to log into translate.google.com and figure out foreign languages without any interruptions or changes whatsoever–Google's announcement only concerns the Translate API. But that doesn't mean that developers are taking the news with digital smiles on their faces.
