Never leave home without them. The best part is that you can leave it on for weeks even when you swim.

Me personally I love Loop and even bought the TIES System from penguin magic. My only problem is using the thread spool it came with. Any one know of an elastic thread dipsener ala z-webs?

I've had no problem making loops without the special TIES system. Or so I think! Does the system do something specific?

I like loops for certain tricks but prefer using a LeClair animator. I like being able to do impromptu work with loops though.
LeClair teaches you how to make your own IT on his DVD. I don't have his book but I assume he has the same information on it. |

I just got my first loops 2 months ago, they are great. The worst thing is when I put some things in my pockets for the day, I often forget about the loops until I WANT TO USE THEM.
And have not broken the first one. I only use light objects, bills, fork, reading glasses, a ink pen. The heaviest thing is cards, I love the haunted card with loops...its GREAT! Good Magic... |

I am now just beginning to explore the possibilities of IT (with and without reels) and loops.
4 out of my 5 loops broke the first week. I am guarding the 5th until I get a better feel with the much cheaper IT. I got two different reels, and they seem to work nicely, but I am having the greatest results from anchoring a fixed length to something nearby and attaching the other end to myself. I really like the self-retracting and easy transporting of loops, but is there a convienient way to have 2-3 feet of IT on you, ready to use, without it tangling? Thanks for input.

Penguin Magic is currently selling a spool of elastic thread + an online video teaching how to create your own loops.
I've never really liked the idea of loops, because of their susceptible to breakage. Also, I really didn't know what's possible with them. After seeing some demo videos and hearing you guys rave about loops, I thought I'd give a try. The penguin system is called "The Million Dollar Knot + Pro Thread" for $19.95. So for about the same price you pay for elastic thread, you get to learn how to create your own loops and save lotsa money. The video is not high production quality, but it gets the job done by teaching you how to create your own loops and how to do several effects like the haunted deck, pyschokinetic fork/pen, and rising card. The advertising print claims you can create the loops in 3 seconds...I don't think that's possible. More like several minutes. Certainly with experience, you can create more loops in less time. I've read elsewhere that the thread provided tends to "shine." I have not used mine yet so cannot confirm this. Here's the link: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=855 |

It says on my packet that they can stretch up to 25cm! They cant even stretch up to 10cm. I showed my friends and I was doing the haunted deck routine with it. I attached the loop to the card and then pulled, (NOT HARD) and snap, my friends were laughing...
I've already broken 2 loops but I practice with elastic band or invisible thread. How do you get around the problem of them breaking around puplic or friends? |

Ok, first learn the breakage point with your loops. You may have to go through quite a few, but after that you get the hang of how much pressure you put on them. Also when you do the haunted deck, have no more than half the deck on top, becuase even that weight can make them snap if your not carefull. I sometimes use about a third of the deck on top for that effect. SD

Magickid, like Shadow Dancer said, insert the card down 1/3 of the deck. Go slowly, and once the cards start to move, they should glide easily. I've never had a Loop break during Haunted Deck. They CAN stretch to 25cm (the yigal Mesika ones at least). Inevitably though, they will break -- either a ring is a little too heavy or the thread gets caught on something (it can snag on the ring itself). When it happens to me, I just continue with the effect and concentrate even if nothing happens. I think it's ok if you're not successful 100% of the time. Just follow up with a strong effect and people will forget that you messed up. Also, you could wear another Loop on the other wrist as a backup. But only practice will tell you the limit of your LOOPS. Good luck.

Both Loops and ITR's can be really useful. I believe that every useful item like that should be carried and utilized when possible. What is the harm in having a loop with you, even if you don't use it, there is always the possibility.

Hello!
To come back to an interesting question that has been asked here before, but hasn't been answered yet: is it true that the Ammar source is better than the ones you by at Penguin Magic? Regards,

Ok I've read all of these posts and I bought a set of 50. I still need to get some books and vids. But what book or DVD is the best one for my buck? Also I love IT. The only problem is I can't seem to find effective wax. I have le claire but it seems to deteriorate on me. Any help would be great, brothers.

Recently yigal mesika (loops) was in town and performed some loops routines. then he was selling his book and spider pen. after seeing the routine and explanation, the book seemed weak for $20. in retrospect if I didn't see the performance I might have thought differently. also if you are an IT performer, the spider pen is right up your alley. penguin sells them for $37.50 opposed to the going rate of $50. make sure to get extra batteries.

I think the key to using loops for haunted deck is how you move the loop...
If you just pull it hoping that the elasticity of the loop will make the trick work, it'll most likely break. That's what happened to me... my loops kept breaking. So I changed the way I moved my hands in order to prevent the loop from breaking and making sure the cards moved. Shadow dancer, which part of Australia is the magic shop located ? |

Wow, it has been a while since I have posted something here. I have been lately doing the spinning spoon/fork with the loops, fantastic effect. Only downfall is that you have to find a spoon or fork with the right weight, otherwise you will find the loop snapping in 2 seconds!!! Also, have any of you noticed that in the last few months, Yigals loops have been snapping reall reall easily? I had gone through a whole packet in a wwek, because two of the actual knots had undone in the packet!!! Also I was in a competition the other day and was doing the haunted deck, with a brand new Bike deck neva been used before, had ofcourse been shuffeled, and using a brand new loop, (had been stretched before performing the act, and when the part came for me to performe the haunted deck, half way through teh deck seperating, the loop BROKE!!! I am not sure if I will be using them for too much longer. I think that I might start to make my own, thanks to the Magic Café DIY on loops. Oh, btw, I had an extra loop on my wrist, just because I have noticed the poor downfall of quality of the loops. I have been dis-heartend to some extent now about it, but at least the subject has been raised. Shadow Dancer
