I'd put about the Copeland one here as person had asked about new material and it's only on offer for a limited time so didn't feel like it needed to be in the pinned thread. Also not watched it yet, so don't know if it's worth recommending for beginners. Confident it will be from there other releases.
Since that pinned thread was made a lot of the material has been released in different formats too. Both the Roth and Ammar have been released as sets with props by Murphy. I quite like the Murphy release of the Roth material. The coins included were better than I expected for the price they are charging for the set of 3 videos. The half dollars are a bit soft with and edge that's hard to grip, which might give some beginners problems, particularly for classic palm. But overall good value. Just ordered the Ammar set. Haven't got the physical props delivered yet, but can watch the downloads. The material is good, but really wish there was some navigation tool or at least the times of different sections listed. It just downloads as the 3 sections, so a bit awkward for locating any particular part. |

Having a mention of additional resources in this thread does't mean they can't _also_ go in that thread, and having another thread of resources doesn't mean they shouldn't go in this one. Not everyone reads every thread, so some repetition and duplication is probably useful. Not to mention that coming across it in a 3 page thread is a lot more likely than in a 12 page one. There is certainly value in separation (e.g. gaff section vs ungaffed section), but that doesn't, for example, mean you can't ever mention sleights in the gaff section. |

I don't want to tell anyone what to write where. There are moderators for that.
Share your experiences and opinions in any place that seems appropriate to you. That's what it's all about. I don't see anything wrong with that. The beginners' thread mainly contains the well-known "standards". There is now a wider range of material that has hardly or never been discussed. Zee, for example, or Copeland. I just wanted to raise awareness that there is new information for the answer to an old question. But it is well hidden, because of the topic. That's all. Without judgement. |

Koz’s Reel Magic Magazine is a lot more than everything mentioned here. It is a fantastic collection of all kinds of magic, and many of the people mentioned here have been featured for their contributions to the art. It is well worth not just a good look-see, but a membership. It is quite affordable, probably one of the most affordable magical items available. I think you also get access to all the back issues, so you can look through whatever interests you. There is also a lot of good coin magic there, especially as any good closeup guy has some coins in his pocket somewhere. So, with this you get old magic, new magic, history & crediting, instruction, photos & diagrams, in-depth explanations and true insight into this great art. Not to mention that Kozmo is a really good magician himself, so he knows from whence he speaks and shares.

I bought the first volume of the "Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights" about 20 years ago. For some reason, I didn't really watch it as closely as I should have, and so it went into the infamous "magic drawer" that most of us have for things that we've bought and didn't use.
When I saw Mike's post about the review, I decided to take a look at the review. Based on that, I pulled out the DVD and watched the first few minutes on the CP and the FP. In addition to modeling the proper techniques and moves for the sleights, I found there was some excellent audio commentary and tips about the sleights as well. I'm not sure what prompted me to shelve the DVD in the first place. But now I see that it was a "diamond in the rough," as they say! So I just ordered the second volume of the same set. I'm hopeful that by watching volume 1 again, I can unlearn most of my bad habits and mistakes, and I'll also learn some new things from volume 2 as well. The fact that these DVD's are still in print almost 25 years after they were first issued is a statement in itself about their quality and usefulness. BTW, I'm not sure there's a "best" video for learning coin sleights, any more than there's a "best" book about coin magic. I've found that each coin DVD I bought is helpful in some way, and that no single DVD contains all the information you might want or need. When I began learning coin magic many years ago, there were no such things as videotapes, DVD's or digital downloads; you learned from books like Tarbell, Bobo or Hugard's "Modern Magic Manual." While I believe books still have their place for routines, theory, presentation and practical advice, today's magis are quite fortunate to have video in their toolboxes, especially for learning sleights. I only have some of the Metal series but found it to be quite approachable for learning some good coin magic. I am also a fan of the David Roth trilogy.
