IllusionsMichael's point about saving any gaffed effect for later on is excellent.
Once you have blown them away with obviously ordinary cards they will assume you don't need trick cards to create impossible moments. Mark Lewis is right. If you are moving with rhythm toward a definite conclusion people are much less likely to interrupt. They will get caught up in your confidence and flow. If they sense hesitation, they may try to take control. If you have not yet written scripts for your favorite effects, try it. This may give you better flow and pace making your magic more fun for all involved. Good Luck. |

This is the exact reason I chose not to do effects that use gimmicked cards years ago.

As the years roll by, I find less people wanting to examine my props.
Let's take a look at specifically close-up strolling magic. Some of my Magic routines involve handing the spectators a prop. I also use some props that can be handed out at the end. I also use one or two trick decks. For some reason, I have never had anyone ask to examine the deck. If they did, I would just say sure but let me show you something really amazing. They will usually forget about it. If not, I just run! Cheers! |

Interesting thread.
The OP never gave any context (and never posted another post!) My guess is he was probably quite young, and doing tricks for friends/classmates. This is exactly the sort of situation where "spectators" would demand to see the props. Totally different from a professional situation. |

COVID now gives us all a great excuse as to why our props shouldn't be examined!
