I am thinking about getting a set of poi, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice about the type to get (flags or no flags).
Thanks,
Phil

Phil,
I have the flag poi and they draw a lot of attention. I can add glow sticks too. This is a great Poi site!!!

Thanks for the site, it is great! Are there any pros/cons of having the flags?
Thanks,

Phil,

The flags are more visual, and I can add glow sticks. I did make my own glow stick poi from some glow sticks and some string. A very big hit in the dark on the 4th of July. Sorry I can't be of more help I am still a novice myself.

Flags are better for performing, because they are more visual, but you might want to get no-flags first, because flags can sometimes get in the way and tangle up. I think the best of both worlds has to be fire poi...

I have the flamming monkey paws, which are used like poi but it's a rope with big knots on each end. I have not used them yet I have some practicing to do first! I juggle fire and it is the best way to draw a crowd.

The ones where the whole rope burns and you've just got a little gap between the fire and your hand??? I love these things! I've been using them for about two years now, they're considered one of the most dangerous fire props because they're difficult to put out and can wrap around body parts very easily. But they are IMO the most beautiful too, they give a long blue flame, and the most amazing sound too...unlike any other fire toy. These truly are the best...So where did you get yours?

I won them at a juggling festival. Juggling torches make a great roar too. A friend and I were juggling for a team building video for a local corporation, and the tech team loved the sound of the fire. They made a sound track to keep on file.

Yeah, but they're not the same kind of roar, with clubs the volume varies through the throw, but with the ropes you have more control over the volume, and also the colour of the flame, spin it fast it goes blue, slow and you've got yellow. The favourite is still the ropes.

Flags can be a pain on some tricks, they snarl up on each other and it all goes wrong.
When you are learning a set of tennis balls on the end of some fine chain is good.
Firepoi are the most visually stunning, and are very easy to work with. (Not for beginners...You will burn yourself!)

I have a set of poi I made myself using Red Green Blue LEDs. They flash through random colors very fast and I have a diffuser mounted on the end so it is visible from loads of angles. These leave a rainbow trail behind them that really draws crowds. Smile

Here's what I made my first set of glowing poi from: http://www.astrojax.com/us/en/products/ajsaturn

Cut the string, push the bungs out and put your own lines on, tie it down and make sure the string length is good and you have a set of poi which can either be on (single color) or strobe really fast (single color).

One set of astro jax gets you three of the balls. One red, one green and one yellow.

Just trying to find the LED torch I used for the rainbow poi online for ya.

This kind of thing: http://www.clubthings.com/product928.html

But it has got a shed load more colors that it produces very fast.

Bit more like this: http://www.clubthings.com/product773.html

Bingo. Smile
