I'm 21 an the truth is, I always thought fanny packs looked goofy, but last winter I went to Spain where all the youth used them, they had them twisted around to the side, and kinda hanging down. I then bought a camel skin one in Granada that was said to be imported from Morocco.

It's not fancy, it has a big poket, and a small flat one for coins. However the amout of magic I can fit in it is insane.

I can carry up to 4 decks of cards, all my gaffs in a card wallet, spongeballs, reality twister, ITR, wax, silks, in the front pocket I can carry many coins, my TT, bills, the gimmick for some Torn and Restored effects.

Anyone else use one of these things? I know there are some even more complicated designs out there which I'm sure add even more crazy space.

Maybe they're OK in Spain or Mexico, but they even make commercials in the USA showing guys wearing fanny packs to be dweebs. I don't see a magician here wearing one who could expect a female to watch anything he does. They are a leftover from the 1980s and a sign of being socially awkward. I agree they could hold some magic, but I think American magi would be better off with a pocket apron, which could fall into the porn for women category. In that case, @KeithP has the right idea.

I would not be caught wearing a Fanny Pack and expect people to take me seriously. I would rather wear cargo pants and shorts over a Fanny Pack.

Those people you saw in Europe were on vacation, they were nowhere near their friends that could see them.

You've always been right!

--------they look totally goofy.

There are tons of classier options, depending on what props you carry.
Many great posts back through this very forum.

I know what you mean by 'they have the wearing over their shoulder to the side'..

I'm from Europe and kids wear it like that over here, well.. it's ridiculous!

I say this because it's a certain type of people that wear this, and if you want random people to stop, listen to you, watch you do magic, you don't want to look like this type of person..

A small backpack or suitcase, especially that last one will make you look a lot more interesting and serious.

I use the Trickster Hipster. It is like a fanny pack - but a little bigger. That doesn't sound good does it? It actually reminds me of my tactical gear, it has the look and feel of it. It is really well made and might not look as geeky as a fanny pack. Or I've convinced myself it looks better... Anyway it holds freaking everything! The main pocket holds my cups & balls and 5" rings with room to spare. There are numerous, well placed, pockets for just about anything else you would need. I've got various decks of cards, my TT, coins, sponge balls, color changing knives, all the gaff cards I would ever need, Sharpies, ropes, scissors, devil's handkerchief and still have pockets I have not used. But it is compact and organized enough to find what you need with no fumbling, and is about a 1/4 of the size of a messenger bag.

I got mine from Penguin for $26.

~Edit~ I just went and looked at the OGIO Hip Hop Messenger Bag mentioned in an earlier reply and it looks great for all the larger gear, with pockets for the small stuff too. I found it on ebay for $35! Seems to be $60 most places.

Here are some pics of it... Penguin has a mediocre pic. And it is actually on a tac site. How about that?

@Tukaram:

I like that! I am going to seriously consider getting that crossover leg rig. Thanks for posting and thanks to the original poster. I use a hip pack(sounds better than fanny) when my wife and I are on vacation. I have used it for walk around and find it too convenient to worry about the impression. It is mostly under my jacker and the same color, I doubt it is that noticeable.

Guys, a fanny pack by any other name is still a fanny pack. You might as well be wearing black socks and sandals and pull your pants up to your adam's apple.

I wear 3 fanny packs at the same time...nothing wrong with that. Style and dignity are totally different from practicality.

I tend not to use it for gigs, but I did bring it to a bike rally, recently, to keep some supplies in - batteries for the camera, beads, etc. I had a great time and have pictures to remind me of that great time. I sling it over my shoulder, because it looks awful around my waist.

Why would you want to give people another reason to say no to you? Please don't wear a fanny pack.

And then you'd fit right in at most magicians' gatherings. Ba-dum

I agree. No FPs.

Here's an idea: Sport coat or suit jacket. Classy. Lots of pockets, inside and out. Dress it up with a shirt and tie, or dress it down with a T-shirt and jeans. No comparison.
