I am sure there is a link somewhere is these 13 bajillion posts...

What is your recommendation for the best DVD for someone wanting to get started in ventriloquism? I did it many millenia ago when I was a teen (with an old harlie McCarthy puppet with a string to move the mouth!)?

I am considering buying a soft vent puppet from a fellow Café member, but want to get some proper instruction so I don't learn any bad habits along the way.

Ideas?

I'd recommend getting the Maher course that contains Mark Wade's excellent DVD. You can of course just buy Mark's DVD by itself but the course is superb and almost "the standard" amongst most vents, IMHO.

Mark wade does personal coaching for new vents. You might want to consider that. I find that I have difficulty learning thru DVDs and books because I don't know if I'm doing things right or not. Live instruction is the best if you can afford it

Mike,
I also recommend you consider the Maher Course. It is broken down into simple, fun lessons. Vent is relatively easy to understand, but hard to master. It requires a lot of practice. The Maher course helps by providing bite sized chunks that allow you to develop as you progress.

In addition to the Maher course (which includes Mark Wade's DVD as mentioned above) I also recommend Paul Winchell's DVD. I believe his offers the best advice on mastering the labials B, P & M. I had issues understanding and getting a proper B from the Maher course and Winchell's DVD cleared them up for me.

Good luck!

I just bought the DeMar DVD from a fellow Café member. I have found the Maher course on the big auction site for about $50. I will look fore the Winchell DVD as wel. Thanks all, for the recommendations!
