“CREATOR OF ‘SILENT TREATMENT’ AS PERFORMED BY JASON ALEXANDER (GEORGE) FROM SEINFELD”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INYAN6iDhUs
Jon Allen is one of the very few professional close-up magicians in the UK who has made an impact in the world of magic as well as corporate and private events around the world. Many magicians are “award winning” but ask what the awards are and it may well not sound so impressive! He is England's only World IBM Close-up Magic Champion, a recipient of The Magic Circle's ‘Close-up Magician of the Year', the British IBM Close-up Magic Champion and is a prestigious Gold Star Member of the Inner Magic Circle which is only by invitation from the President. His TV work includes Panorama, MTV Awards, RI:SE, Big Breakfast, Hidden World of London, London Today, Mrs. Cohen's Money, XChange and numerous TV commercials. Jon creates astonishment, excitement and powerful memories. All magicians do tricks, but the impact, reactions and experience they produce vary immensely and this is where Jon excels! He avoids the “Just stay there and watch what I can do!” type of performance that is ultimately non-rewarding to the audience. Instead, he concentrates on strong effects, natural presentations and a lightening-fast wit that enables him to accomplish real miracles for real audiences! Not only is he a working pro, but he is also the creator of many effects used by top magicians, too. He is well-known for effects such as ‘Double Back’, ‘Flexion’, ‘The Pain Game’, ‘The Destination Box’ and the universally acclaimed ‘The Silent Treatment’, which was used as an opener for Jason Alexander’s (George from Seinfeld), Magic Castle Act. His new book “Experience: The Magic of Jon Allen” and DVD “ Spectator’s Don’t Exist” have been given rave reviews around the world.
Jon’s lecture is titled “Who Cares About Magic?” and is a must-see for all magicians who do. As well as learning the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of wonderful new routines, you will learn the ‘why’ about them. This can then be applied to any type or style of magic you do. You will not only come out of the lecture with more tricks in your arsenal; you’ll come out of it, inspired to look at how to make your magic better for your audiences! Among some of the routines you will learn in the lecture are: *Ghost: A three-phase animated bill routine that builds to a surprising to climax. *The Wedding Trick: Destined to become the definitive wedding trick for happy couples all around the world. *Grabbit Production: A new way to produce any manner of different objects. *Burning Rubber: Numerous rubber band effects, including the restoration of a band around someone's wrist, weaved into a full routine for walk around or table work. *Schrödinger's Card: The controversial and thought-provoking card effect that leaves people with a memorable souvenir... and a dilemma! Tricks are cool, but you will also learn more importantly: *Why entertaining people should NOT be your first priority? *How to make your routines more powerful and you more memorable? Why signatures on cards are detrimental to your performance? *How to create new routines and effects? *Why the meaning of DK/DC & SYPI is so important to your magic! Jon will be one of the most entertaining, informative and inspirational lectures you will ever experience plus learning the serious side on the performance of magic!
“There is a marvelous elegance and economy to Jon’s work as a performer and as a creator.”-Jay Sankey “Jon Allen thinks of method, but unlike many he also, blessedly, thinks of more than method.”-David Regal “I’ve seen a multitude of magicians around the globe and the UK’s Jon Allen is simply one of the best. He gets it.”-Gregory Wilson
DO NOT MISS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM A REAL WORKING PROFESSIONAL MAGICAN!!!! JON ALLEN WILL BE IN SAN FRANCISCO FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY!!!

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED MAGIC DOCUMENTARY “MAKE BELIEVE”
OPENS IN AT THE BALBOA JULY 22
Official Website for more information, interviews and photos: http://www.makebelievefilm.com
A coming of age journey set in the quirky subculture of magic, “Make Believe” follows six of the world's best young magicians as they pursue the title of Teen World Champion and lead us on their personal journeys of transformation through magic. The movie has its Northern California Premiere at the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco. Many screenings will feature guest appearances by both teen and professional magicians before the showings. Winner of the prize for Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival. “Make Believe” will screen daily from Friday July 22-Thursday, July 28.
“J. Clay Tweel's documentary follows six teenage magicians to Las Vegas, where they seek the title of Teen World Champion in a competition that draws hopefuls from around the world. The title doesn't do justice to the film, which is starting to play in theaters around the country. These talented, dedicated kids aren't making believe about anything—they're making art out of shimmering illusion, intricate manipulation and blithe misdirection. (In magic, as distinct from filmmaking, misdirection is a good thing.) Among the contestants are a boundlessly articulate and fatefully beautiful young woman from Malibu, Calif., and a tender, tentative boy from Japan who, isolated in his rural village, created his act, and his performing self, out of whole silk. Why one succeeds and one fails is a mystery more compelling than any we see on stage."-Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424......716.html
The Balboa Theatre is located at 3630 Balboa Street (@ 37th Avenue in San Francisco. (415) 221-8184 http://www.BalboaMovies.com.
Advance Tickets can be purchased at http://www.BrownPaperTickets.com
“The young people seen here never seem artificial; you feel their passion for doing magic, as well as their nagging loneliness, devoted as they are to practicing card tricks and such for hours on end, while their peers are off doing what most teenagers do…The buildup to the actual competition is perfectly paced…the championship has all the drama of a high-stakes sporting event…”-Neil Genzlinger, New York Times http://movies.nytimes.com/2011/05/13/mov......iew.html
“…Gem of a movie…charming…thumbs up!”-Roger Ebert, At the Movies http://www.ebertpresents.com/movies/make-believe “Guaranteed to have viewers levitating, ‘Make Believe’ is a charming, affectionate and often elegantly executed study…it’s a kind of personal heroism that helmer J. Clay Tweel captures in this Los Angeles Film Festival jury prizewinner.”-John Anderson, Variety http://www.variety.com/review/VE11179430......=31&cs=1

Magic @ The Rex starring RJ Owens, Adam Sachs & Sebastian Boswell
Ongoing Every Saturday Night 8:00pm
The Hotel Rex, 562 Sutter Street, San Francisco
Magic at the Rex is an evening of mystery, wonderment and laughs. In an intimate cocktail lounge setting at the classic Hotel Rex in Union Square, you will be up close and personal with every flick of the wrist and wave of a hand of Adam Sachs, Sebastian Boswell III and RJ Owens.
Here's how the San Francisco Chronicle described the show: "Forget the pyrotechnics, fog machines and cheesy background music - this isn't Caesars Palace. Absolute Magic focuses on the interactive and communal aspects of a magic show rather than the spectacle. Featured are local magicians RJ Owens - whose avuncular charm and offbeat brand of comedy magic will have you somewhere between smirking and outright chortling (depending on your sheepishness) - and Adam Sachs, with his mystifying sleight of hand, which may require reminders to close your mouth."
Tickets are $25, and there’s a two drink minimum.
