Years and years ago I saw a guy do a stand up routine where a, I guess, laminated paper and ball were used. I think the magician rolls paper into a cone and pours the ball out. The ball goes back into the cone and paper/cone is immediately undone with no ball..showing both sides of paper. Anyone know this routine?

This wasn't end of the trick, there was more to it than just the above two sequences. But it's been probably 25 years since I saw the "VHS" performance.

Are you looking for the Jerry Andrus item?
In his the sheet of plastic has a circle on it and when it's rolled into a cone a ball (or lemon) rolls out.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

It's called Zone Zero. You might be able to find it with a Google search.

Be prepared to do some reading.

It's an entire routine right? Not just one phase (the lemon appears and vanishes repeatedly..right?)

Hmmmm...Looks perfect! Hard to believe I've been doing shows without this one. But it looks like the effect is only done with a board, and not the flexible plastic (that you can roll into a cone). Does anyone see it sold with the cone/plastic??

You are going to have trouble finding this. It's probably not commercially available any longer. It was done with flexible plastic. BTW, there are some ball and cone manipulations on some of the Cellini DVD's. The cone is formed around the hand and the ball goes in and out of it.

Thank you very much Bill for your post. I've ordered Zone Zero II and it features Jerry's old video with the flexible plastic - it is EXACTLY what I remembered YEARS AND YEARS AGO. It's so crazy how you can be literally driving down the road and just "remember" certain routines. If it weren't for the magic Café, it would have been much harder to find this.

I can already see that this is not only going to be an excellent, enjoyable research project, but it packs flat and plays big. I'm going to learn what others have done with this. This is exactly the kind of visual "full of surprises" magic I love!!!!!!!!!

Cellini did some nice things with this, as well. Kozmo has his videos, I think.

I come across a couple really good "youtube magicians" doing Zone Zero. The Zone Zero II dvd I purchased appearently has some "basic move" to learn. Afterwards, I think I can duplicate these youtube performer's and their variations.

That would be "Magic That Can be Performed Anywhere" And it's one of my favorites.

Finding a suitable mat for the Karson routine is not so easy these days.
Maybe I'll visit Ray Goulet tomorrow. He has EVERYTHING.

Actually, Tony Slydini also had such a routine and it appears in his book "Encores". It uses a looped ball, and the moves to get the illusion are really the work of this master at his best. The book is available on Lybrary.com for a few bucks (shamingly cheap for such a book).

Except for cups and balls. I got his cup and ball collection in December!
