In the animated TA, the WINGS move (flutter?)on the gimmicked card, which has to be switched for the handout(refill). In the PHOENIX ANGELS effect, the entire ANGEL (melts) into view while the spectator holds the card --- a very powerful moment and it always creates a smile on their faces. The card can be given out without switching and numerous gaffs can be easily made within minutes --- no refills to be bought and the original TA card is kept.
IMHO, Phoenix Angels is the perfect "add-on" for any version of the TA effect because after the angels are united, the spectators eventually request: "Can you put the Angel back"? And then you causually do so in a highly visual manner. Think back on your last performance, you can probably remember that the spectators requested (or challenged) that the Angels be placed back in their proper places? It's a weird thing, the spectators have a psychological need to have the Angels "returned", as if the balance of the universe were a risk. Better yet, for serious TA performers, the main method of Phoenix Angels has numerous creative applications for other card effects --- it's found in chapter 10 & 11 of Prestige Pen Projects. |
