The Parlour decks are a newer line using a card size that is larger than Poker sized, ma***d, but definitely not jumbo size.
Never bought one but here is what Cardshark says on the site: Main features of the Parlour Deck: High visibility for Close-up, Parlour and Stage performances Cards still look like Poker sized cards to your audience All the features of the Phoenix Deck are also built into the Parlour design(ie: one way design on the backs and faces) All sleights that could be performed with Poker sized cards can be done with the new Parlour size, so you will get used to the new size extremely fast The cards are produced on our Card-Shark stock that matches the US playing card stock used for Bicycle Decks, our newly invented Smooth Glide Finish will guarantee beautiful looking fans and flourishes Perfect as a training deck. If you train your sleights with the Parlour Deck, performing them with Poker sized cards is a breeze. It is as if you would perform Poker Deck sleights with a Bridge size deck. Many specialty decks and effects already exist in this new size, including Double Deckers, Ultimate Brainwave, Get Sharky, Invisible Decks etc.

REVIEW (Get Sharky Vaudeville & Phoenix Vaudeville cards):
So there is hopefully no confusion before I start here let me explain a few things about the Phoenix Vaudeville decks as they come in a number of flavors and iterations: 1) Regular Phoenix Vaudeville Decks - These are standard Phoenix decks, marked, with an aged look http://www.card-shark.de/index.cfm?page=......rtID=174 2) Phoenix Vaudeville "Double Deckers" - These are the already famous Phoenix thin cards, with an aged/worn look). These decks are FANTASTIC for Trilogy, Phil, Duality, etc. http://www.card-shark.de/index.cfm?page=......rtID=175 3) Phoenix Vaudeville "Get Sharky" - These are a special order item if you are on Cardshark's mailing list. This is the standard Sharky, using aged "Double Decker" thin cards. I just received my Vaudeville Get Sharky deck yesterday, along with a regular non-ga***d Vaudeville deck. These decks are all new, and they are similar in in some respects to the vintage looking Ellusionist 1800 decks - but with some major differences. Keep in mind that the Vaudeville version of Get Sharky uses the Phoenix Double Decker card set. Those who are familiar with the wonderful Double Deckers know that these cards broke new ground because there are essentially 104 cards (plus jokers) that now fit inside a standard card box. Sharky doesn't use an entire Double Decker deck with that many cards, but just as with the standard Get Sharky - the set is extremely precision made (each set takes over an hour by hand to create apparently) and the feel of the cards is still butter smooth and spectators will surely think nothing when handling these. The Vaudeville style adds a nice twist now - an aged patina and slightly worn look to the cards, both front and back. There cards look like an old pair of your favorite blue jeans, with some stress marks that are subtle in places and slightly yellowed and a bit faded in areas of the face and back of the card. Compared with the Ellusionist 1800 decks, the Vaudeville are perhaps 30-40% LESS aged in their appearance - so instead of looking like a deck that was sitting in the drawer for say 100 years - the Vaudeville decks look like Grandpa Houdini used these for a little while and they aged just enough so that they don't look new but maybe 40 years old. The backs of the cards look like the color has faded, and the white edges are nicely dingy. I I own many of the Ellsionist decks and like them, and with the Ellusionist decks even the card box looks heavily work with tape marks and highly detailed rough patches. In some respects the Ellusionist decks almost look a little overly processed in the aging machine - I like them, but the Phoenix Vaudeville decks look more natural. The Vaudeville card box pretty much looks like a standard Phoenix box that is slightly aged and yellowed - *very* subtle with only the slightest of aging visible. For those that own Get Sharky already, Cardshark apparently made an unannounced change for the system used to determine the chosen ****e card. The color now matches the back color of the cards (like a Chameleon) so (according to Cardshark) the performer may now comfortably perform Get Sharky surrounded with no worries. This new system should be fine and an improvement for sure, but could present a slight challenge for those with poor vision or in lower lighting situations. I can't go into details on this for fear of exposure, but the new coloring is certainly an improvement for those wanting to do this effect for a larger group. In summary the new Vaudeville decks are really beautiful in their lightly aged appearance, and the use of these for Get Sharky adds a bit of mystique and extra mystery to one of the best card effects on the market. The Vaudeville edition is ONLY available now by special order direct from Cardshark and is not on the web site as far as I know. The Vaudeville cards themselves are also something special for magician's seeking an aged look for their decks, but without the "over the top" aging you will find on the Ellusionist 1800's. Thanks Brett.
The fronts look aged though the photo of the back you posted doesn’t really show any aging at all; maybe it is more visible in person. BTW, for the method for determining the f#*&(#@*@&&@ce card (hehehe), and your comments about those with poor vision, lighting, or both, I take it your point is that they are more difficult to see. Is that correct? One could still do a little something themselves to remedy that, couldn't they? How about the added one that many of us have done; is that now "built-in" or must it still be done manually? I'm waiting for my Vaudeville GS. Thanks! Jim |

So I went over the red with green Sharpie which works best for my taste as I like to immediately know what I need without straining. I think in the end some people will really dig the coloring and I don't know whether this is the way all Sharky's are now being made as a standard. The backs definitely do look a little afed - but like the card box the aging is subtle. The back of the cards look a little lighter than a normal Phoenix deck, worn, with a little tinge of yellow on the white border. Like I said the aging of these Vaudeville Decks is super nice as the aging is so subtle that this does not scream out g****d deck but rather looks like a deck that's been sitting in a drawer. The feel of the regular Vaudeville cards for fanning etc is MUCH better than the Ellusionist 1800's - these must be using air cushion finish or even better. The finish on the Get Sharky cards is exactly the same as all the Double deckers and the original Get Sharky deck.

Actually we did not change anything on the marking, as we always prepared the marks in the same color of the backs. Did you maybe already pimp your old Get Sharky and forgot about it?

I have to look but my old Get Sharky set was a blue backed deck and the ****x color was a little more visible so it may be the red.
Also, the backs of the Vaudeville decks seem (to me) a shade or two lighter than a regular red Phoenix deck. I don't think I pimped 'em but I will look when I get home. In any event, I like these Vaudeville cards a LOT as they look slightly used but feel like new. Perfect.

I’m not quite understanding something here as far as the Vintage deck goes in regards to Get Sharky. I have GS and I absolutely love it and the reactions I get are over the top! With that said, I’ve never understood the purpose of aged anything unless it directly ties in with the story/presentation given. About the only thing that I remotely found it somewhat possibly necessary (emphasis on “possibly”) as to aged cards might possibly be “Legacy” albeit I’m sure there are other effects that might "possibly" require an aged look to a card. Actually, in my experience I’ve found that no matter what story you give that more often than not the average spectator never really pays that much attention to such detail and could really care less. It might make us feel nice, but all in all it’s usually lost upon the spectator and really not all that necessary. Just my honest opinion.

I don't think that the Vaudeville version of Get Sharky woulf be a mainstream item. But when two magicians wanted such a version independently it made me thinking. That is why I offered this limited edition.
Regarding story telling magic WITH THE RIGHT PROPS I can tell you several performances I did with other tricks like Metamorphosis or the Gypsy Curse, the cards play a big part in making the effect "real" for the spectator. Much stronger than just a magic trick.

Gaffed,
The vintage-look cards can fit into certain styles. For example, I'm sure you have seen Pop Hadyn's act, either live or on video; don’t you think that the vintage look fit in well with his old-time style of clothing and general persona? It's just a different look that can work for some folks. Just because your "average spectator could care less", that in no way extends to other performers and their spectators. Dream as you may, you don’t necessarily set the example for the rest of us! Jim |

There is a nice saying in german language where I have problems to translate it properly.
In sum it says that something that does not fit somebody can be the perfect fit for someone else. Having both options to choose from is a great advantage, and at least the gem finally made its way to the bizzarists and story tellers.
