Some tricks require a note of specific denomination. What do you do when no-one has the note you need but offers a different one?

I fall back on an old favourite, I float the different offered note using IT and move onto something else.

Pen thru bill or Clean thru / Clear thru.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

For this sort of situations, you always need to have a standby effect you can do with any denomination bill.

Why not just carry one around? That way if you really want to show that effect you can. I do that with mismade bill sometimes. If no one has a dollar I look in my wallet and pull one out.

As you pull one out of your own pocket or wallet:

I would, if this is something that is likely to happen, be ready to use any of the three most common bills or notes. 1-5-10, etc. I can't off hand think of a reason why you couldn't do this, but you might have one.
If there is some specific reason why you think that it's a problem you might want to run it by us, etc. Best,

As an aside: Billy McComb used to work cruise ships a LOT! His signature trick for years and years was the ability to do Coin in the Bottle with ANY COIN FROM ANY COUNTRY OFFERED! I kid you not. He had "F" coins made with just about every major currency in the world and a brilliant method of gaining access to the coin needed.
Soooooo...the point is that there is almost always a way around the idea that you might not get the bill you need....come up with a way around it, etc. It can be done. Best,

I always make sure there is someone with a dollar bill in the audience. Before the show I single out a likely fellow and ask if he has a dollar bill on him. If he doesn't I give him one. If no one else comes forward with a dollar I use the guy I preshowed. Makes life easier and a lot less stressful.

Danny:
Billy had a custom made case the indexed all the coins and allowed virtually instant access, etc. That's how he lost them all: The case was stolen.
