But there is hardly anything that can be done wrong in Gdw land so the police don't even have to do more than just walk around and give hugs to anyone that walks by. If you walk into a store without any money and walkout with something it's ok. Everyone shares and it doesn't matter if any money is exchanged for much of anything as well. |

I think that much of this is quite unfair to Glenn. My disputes with his politics notwithstanding, the basic story is troubling. The punishment does seem incommensurate to the crime. And that, I think, is his main point.

There wasn't anything wrong or unjust about the punishment. He didn't do what he was supposed to do so it was arrested. Nothing wrong with that.

What do you do when major freeways are controlled by the KKK or Arian Brotherhood? Covertly of course but you know the outcome.
Yes, gdw. If they don't listen to requests to follow the law or threats of legal action, then taking said legal action is in order. Do you believe it is OK to ignore the police officer's request to pull over your vehicle when you are speeding only 10 km over the speed limit, or after sliding through a stop sign? Should they just mail you the ticket, completely invalidating you need to sign said ticket making an agreement to care for it. Shall violations be handed out by... Oh wait. Roads are private in your world. The rules of the road change every time you turn onto a new road. |

You have displayed you have no idea what I espouse, eventhough I clearly wrote a part of it above. That's not even considering your delusion of "EXACT".

Actually, that's exactly my point. That's the ONLY difference. The state get's to codify it's own rules and codes that "legitimize" its extortion and kidnapping.

I'm sorry, there is a difference in laws restricting personal freedom as in where you sit on a bus and laws protecting building integrity such as building codes.

Oh, I'm sorry Tom, did you not say "If they don't listen to requests to follow the law or threats of legal action, then taking said legal action is in order."
I started this thread to basically point out, as Magnus said, that "The punishment does seem incommensurate to the [so called] crime," and you seem to think that, simply because those are the rules, that what was done is completely appropriate. That thinking is saying that what ever happens to someone who breaks the "law" is right because that's what the law says. Laws and regulations are not unjust and tyrannical only when they stem from bigotry. Or were all those dystopian fictions only bad for minorities? Did I miss that?

So let me get this right the building codes and laws enforcing them are bigotry? I'm so glad I and the rest of us don't live in GDW Land
Now my saying I'm glad I don't live in GDW land is bigotry or a form of it. But the codes and laws the guy broke? Give me a break. |
