Hi all!
The "Life Group" that I belong to in our church are going on an outreach to a Children's Shelter. The age group of the kids we will be ministering to is between 15 and 18. We were discussing the event last night and they needed some ideas for entertainment for the kids. Naturally I suggested a magic show and it was met with great enthusiasm. I need some help on how exactly to incorporate the Word of God into the show. Keep in mind that will be a bit of a language barrier and the education level will also be very low, so I want to keep the message short and simple. I have decided to the following 3 effects and maybe add a card trick in as well. Ring Leader Sponge Balls Proffessor's Nightmare What I'm thinking of doing at the moment is to do all the other effects as a "normal" show wih comedy and so on, and then to use Proffessor's Nightmare as the Gospel Message. The message that how different we might be, God sees us all as the same. Any toughs?

I would perform some magic and give a brief, but personal testimony at the end. You could end performing the KING OF HEARTS and then explain why Jesus is the King of your heart.

I don't own KING OF HEARTS, but I just thought of an interesting trick. I basically force the King of Hearts that the spectator will sign. The card is returned and then vanished from the deck. The card appears in my shirt pocket. Just like the spec's name is written on the king of hearts, once you become a child of God your name is writtent on His heart - the ultimate KING of hearts.

Here in the states, the teenagers I encounter when I do my walk-around in the hospital, think they are too "mature" for magic. I don't know if your audience will feel that way, but at least the magic that you do should not appear "childish" to them. Some thoughts on that would be to not use children's magic props, and try to tie your presentation in to some topic that may be of interest to them. Dan may have more thoughts in that regard. John

The magic I do is also not really children's magic. I lean more toward the high school and up, so I don't own any children's props anyway. It is basically the same here as well, but a lot of the teens that we will be ministering to speak English as a second language and some not at all, so whatever I do has got to be VERY visual.
I have decided to open with Calen Morelli's DRESSCODE. That should earn my some "respect" . The show is in the next 12 hours. Our Life Group sprung this on us very suddenly so there is not much time to prepare. I'll post an update on how it went tomorrow morning. Please keep this event (not only the magic show) in your prayers.

I would contact Ed Jarvis, his email is in the FCM directory. He and his wife spent many years as ministers with the Salvation Army. He would be very knowledgeable in street magic and ministry.

Thanks for posting a summary of the night at the shelter. It sounds like you "built some bridges" and certainly connected with the people.
Will there be a "next time"? peace, phill

I hope so. Each week a different life group is going to the shelter. Maybe the cycle will fall back on our group again.
