I use the jumbo version for stage work and decided to keep it for use on the sidewalk sets to see the reactions.
I was told a few times that the jumbo was stronger as they never suspected card manipulation of any sort, but they did with the regular sized deck. The adage is do what works for you best, but I'm interested in some thoughts from the gang here? R2 |

Hey Devious...I made a "jumbo" version using a deck that's about 2x larger than a standard poker sized deck and use it due to my thinking that spectators would be less likely to assume sleight of hand as the modus operendi. To be honest,if specs cant rely on sleight of hand as their solution to the effect, they will assume its a trick deck of some kind. Since it happens so rarely with the ID I don't even worry about it...the effect hits people so hard that thinking of a solution only hurts their brain harder!

I think they both are good and have there place depending on the setting. As you said, on stage jumbo cards are probably better as they are more visible, in walk around situation a regular invisible deck would be better suited,
As to disguising the true nature of the deck from the audience I believe this is up to the performer via the presentation. Sincerely yours, Jonathan |

I've never had a problem using bridge sized cards, when performing ID. Judging by the reaction, the audience obviously has no clue how I do it.
When I perform a card routine that uses a regular deck, people often accuse me of using a trick deck. Go figure. |

Professional magician Dick Stoner has been using the normal size ID for years in his stage act. Never had any problem with the size of the cards in his show. The audience is to busy laughing throughout the routine.

I use a standard poker size deck for both close-up and stand-up. One of the things I perform that regularly gets a WTF comment from the spectators.

I don't use any gimmicks per se in my performances, save for this killer! I've had a gentleman at an Outback Steakhouse gig offer me up a 100 dollar bill in exchange for the method. Quite tempting it was, but I refused the offer. No kidding!
Mr. Munro, I particularly enjoyed your experience and observation! Many thanks for the feedback gang. |

I would like to have a set of these in "Jumbo" Would you recommend a good source? I was going to buy a jumbo deck and make them myself with roughing fluid, but would rather have a professional set.

I have a jumbo set but they are too hard for me to "manipulate" as per the secret. Does anyone have some handling tips they can PM me? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Using poker sized cards are much better IMO.. As fumbling with the deck kinda look weird..

Nice thread folk! I agree with Jonathan in that the size of the deck depends on setting. I would never use a regular sized deck on a large stge presentaion. I LOVE the idea from peppermeat for increasing the deck size 2x, but then, in the kabillion times I've performed, it has never been questioned.

Remember, Blackstone Jr. performed with a poker size Brainwave Deck in his shows. I saw him perform that way for 5000 people. I could see it fine and I was in the cheap seats.

Folks really just love the novelty of the size and it adds to the entertainment value at least in my sets. I could use all of the help that I can get. Great discussion gang! I thank each of you for the feedback. |

I think if you use anything other than a regular looking deck, then people will expect a trick deck

Smaller std cards are fine for closer shows but Jumbo cards handling I find is easier if all you do is look for the actual card selected not woory about adding nos etc... Cheers Brent |
