I was asked to make a woman disappear 6weeks ago for a show today. Its not something I would normally do, as it goes against my 'packs small plays big' philosophy. But, I wanted to do it so I said Yes to the event. I started combing thru books on illusions and finally came to the Keep It Simple Stupid moment. So I went to the king of easy to do illusions, Andrew Mayne. I got his book Illusion EFX and was inspired to build this contraption. It cost me $200 in materials, but, now I have an illusion prop that can be used for a million and one ideas. Thanks Andrew!
oh yeah here is the video http://youtu.be/DqxaIhl77vQ |

Your Illusion looks great, Chad!
Nice subtletly on being able to walk behind the prop, by the way. I've been using Mayne's ideas and concepts for quite a while now, he's got some really good stuff. |

It's interesting, good fooler for laymen (which is what counts)
Am thinking you'll have the woman reappear in the back of the audience? Personally not crazy about the look but for $200 and reasonable portability it's a winner

Vick I wanna change the look as well. I just didn't have the time. So I made the best of it.
I'm going with an Alfred Hitchcock theme and talking about him and a movie called The Lady Vanishes. Which has nothing really to do with magic. But it sounds good. And will show a small clip on the cloth used to vanish the lady. The clip will freeze and fade into her silhouette coming from the other side. that's How I want it to look anyway. I have a bunch more practice with this and I will probably use it again for a gig in September. Here is a clip of how we did it the other nite. Not the greatest, but it was our first public attempt with it. I wish I could have had her appear elsewhere, but the venue just wouldn't support this. We were almost completely surrounded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEI26iaFDFU |

Terrific idea on projecting film onto the cloth. That would be great for an appearance, as well! Not to mention that a well directed projection could also help masking the BA used.
