This is slightly above your stated price range ($1200 and change, including shipping), but the Spyder Evoflex from Stevens Magic is great. It looks professional, and takes three minutes or less to set up (the video on their website shows this). Just click on the link below, and type in Evoflex on the search bar.

Now that I am at a computer where I can copy/paste URLs, here is the direct link to the Evoflex backdrop (with set up video on it).

Magicbackdrops.com is the way to go. I just got my first backdrop from them and it is fantastic. Top notch customer service and delivery. Everything packs into a custom carrying case you toss over your shoulder. I've been using a backdrop for the past 15 years. I love it but it takes 15 minutes to set up/take down and is a pain to lug around. That's why I decided to try magicbackdrops.com and boy am I glad I did. On my first attempt, it took me 4 minutes to set up the backdrop. Now that I know what to do, that time will easily be cut in half. Better yet, it only took me 5 minutes to tear it down and pack it back into the carrying case. Again, that time will likely be cut in half now that I know what to do.
I worried whether it was going to be sturdy...but those worries were completely unfounded. The tripod that comes with it is built like a tank and fully assembled this backdrop is way more sturdy that my old backdrop that had a support on each side. The way this thing is designed to fold out and back in is genius. I could not be happier and don't see how you could beat their backdrops...especially at that price. Gets my highest recommendation. eric |

Here is the 6 foot version, Abbott's has a price tag of $125.00 so you can save $15 by getting it from Ronjo. http://www.abbottmagic.com/Jet-Set-6-ABB......oryId=-1 Having used the 6 foot version, I would go with the 8 foot, you can always adjust it down for lower ceiling, but it is very difficult to make the 6 foot version taller or wider. Also Abbott's sells a pillow case type drape for these, I would no recommend them as they are only just plain cotton material. They send along an ideas booklet, that will help you create a very nice drape for yourself.

Crushed velour is a great way to go for the material to cover it with. It comes in many colors and can be found in your better sewing and material stores like Jo Anns. Put a light chain in the bottom hem so that it hangs well. The crushed velour can be wadded up and hung and still looks good.

Another vote for Magicbackdrops.com . I have two of their backdrops and they are fantastic. Easy up, easy down and look great even after being in the bag for months!
