Has anyone seen or done the dove archery illusion?
Any opinion on it?

It seems to be a good effect, but before buying it I would contact the seller asking if it could be dangerous for the dove. From what I can see from the link You attached, I think the effect may be weakened by the big apparatus:people may ask:"Why he uses such a big and strange apparatus to put the arrow on? Why not only a table of wood or something like this?" It's also very expensive,so if I were you I would think twice before buying!

I don't think asking the creator about the danger factor. He's try to sell the prop and telling possible buyers that it could be dangerous wouldn't be a good sales technigue. I don't think it is as large as the photos represent. It is mailable through the post office so packed up it wouldn't be that large or heavy.

I think it would be an ok effect if done on stage but it's not something you would want to do in a parlor setting or small area.

I seem to remember seeing this performed once but I can't remember for sure. It looks like it has some good possibilies though.

A unique way to produce the dove from Balloon!!, So unique it just may not fit into your theme???? and archery disply or exhibit maybe!. but for me.. doing shows at fairs it could be dangerous to the folks around you... oops! sorry about the arrow to your arm... not such a good aim?. It is a neat premise, but so unique, it seems it would be hard to fit in. I utilize this principle for a few dove productions, but some traing is still needed to get your dove to perch on arrow after production. silkies work great for this type of effectm due to the fact they cant fly much, and are always looking for place to perch. A nice tamed Java dove wouls also work, may have to try a few of them to see whom would catch on quicker for the perching after production. once again,, nice idea, but seems a bit dangerous, and would need to be done in a well controlled atmosphere.

Your comments are alll appreciated. I will look for other props since the price is also a major factor.

Dear Dave,
I think this is not only a matter of sales tecnique. I asked about the danger factor many times and all the sellers answered honestly:"Yes,if used in a bad way it could be dangerous". It's a matter of reputation. If you buy an item and the seller assures you that it's safe for the bird, and You notice it's dangerous, You won't buy anything from that seller in future.

Well, just about anything can be dangerous if used in a bad way. The question was is it dangerous to the dove. Probably not but as was pointed out by others, it could be dangerous to others if used incorrectly.

Although this is an old post, I stumbled on it today and thought I'd reply. I'm the creator of Dove Archery, and since I am retired and no longer building, there is no reason for "hype".
I performed over 500 performances prior to marketing the effect, all without mishap.
Is it for everyone? No!
Is it safe for the dove? YES!
Is there danger? Yes! But the danger is not in the effect itself, rather the performer. One has to ensure that at the time of performance, there is nobody anywhere near the target. One has to ensure that the arrow is aimed ONLY on the target, just as would be the safe common sense if using a loaded gun.
Is/was it spendy. In terms of many other dove productions, it's at the high end. Then, again, so is a cage vanish. Keep in mind that each unit was built by hand, and took roughly two weeks to build. Figure cost of materials, discount for authorized dealers, etc., I certainly was not getting rich building them. At the same time, I actually wanted the price "up there" so the market would not be flooded. On this particular effect, I was not trying to sell very many of them. (Other products such as the "Omega Ring", 2-bits,Drop-Out Duck Bucket, etc., I was out for all the legitimate business I could muster!)
Any direct comments, questions, etc...I'd be happy to discuss.

It's great to have the creator of the prop make comments on their products so we can get the first hand information and explanation. Appreciate your input.
Since my last entry, I had a chance to inspect the prop and learn how it works, and I was impressed by the creativity involved, and how well this is made. At the end I did not buy it due to the limited setting that I can use it.
