Halfes and another kennedy or english penny? I have one and I'm not sure what sorts of things to start practicing.

What you are referring to is called a Copper/Silver coin, and you will often see it abbreviated as C/S. Not knowing your background in coin work and material and assuming you are beginning, the basic premise behind the Copper/Silver coin is the transposition two coins - one copper and the other, silver. Sometimes it involves more than just two coins of contrasting colors.

The possibilities are endless, as is the number of effects and routines created/performed with that coin. Two of the best places to start are the book called Modern Coin Magic by J.B. Bobo, and Expert Coin Magic by David Roth. There are countless DVDs available with numerous Copper/Silver effects and routines on them, but start with books. Modern Coin Magic has an entire section devoted to the Copper/Silver coin and you will find lots of fun things there to get you started. The earliest known reference to this coin is from the book called The Discoverie of Witchcraft, written in 1584 by Reginald Scot.

Once you get beyond that, there is a DVD in the New York Coin Magic Seminar set devoted entirely to Copper/Silver effects and routines (almost a full 2 hours of stuff!), there is a DVD called World's Greatest Magic - Stack of Quarters & Copper/Silver which has some great things on there (note: Stack of Quarters is an entirely different effect from C/S, but is a classic), David Neighbors has some great material available for C/S work, as does Mike Gallo, Michael Rubinstein, Dan Watkins, Lawrens Godon and Giacomo Bertini to name but a few among many, the last two being reserved for the more advanced work.

I hope this information is useful to you.

Thank you. I have Modern Coin Magic. I just glanced through it and I must have missed the section. I'll have to look again. I have practiced basically the first few chapters of that book, not including sleeving. I can do a lot of them pretty well, but I haven't really tried doing any performances. I decided to get the C/S today and I have thought of some ideas, but like I said I didn't see that chapter in the book.

In Modern Coin Magic, look in the chapter called Trick Coin Trickery, and the Copper/Silver effects start on page 243.

Awesome, thank you. Like I said, I glanced through and saw one with a bunch of crazy coin sets that I didn't have. Much appreciated.

Cablerock,

There are two editions available for "Modern Coin Magic": The newer looking paperback that is commonly seen is actually the older edition; it is a reprint of the original work published in 1952 by Dover Publications. Then there is a hardcover called "The New Modern Coin Magic, Revised and Greatly Enlarged Edition". This is a revised edition published in 1964 by Magic, Inc. It adds 152 pages to the original, plus additional illustrations. It is the much favored edition though it is difficult to find. If you search on Amazon.com you can find used copies for reasonable prices a lot of times. Get the hardcover if at all possible. Lots of good stuff added to it.

Thank you.

Jim
