I just acquired a Chalet Zig Zag and I am curious to hear about how those of you performing place the girl (primarily the feet). PM me so its not viewable by laymen.
Thanks, Jon Dee |

Everyone has their own touch on how they proceed with doing the zig zag. It's more of the comfort of the assistant doing it. I found an easy way for myself when I was 4 years old performing the illusion and continued to do it until I was 20.

Not to get in a snit, but after searching for the Harbin I find it waaaaaay out of my price range. Suggestions on how I could benefit from this trove of knowledge?

THAT'S A GREAT CLIP. I had never seen it before. The real secret is there. It is having a spectator involved.
Did you notice her reaction when she pushed the section over? STUDY THIS WELL. NOTE: I told the story but it was Mike Caldwell driving Pat Page on an L.A. Freeway when they saw a pick up truck with several Zig Zags in it. I believe they were made to be shipped to various theme park shows.

My apology Pete, I thought it was you and Bob.
Posted: Aug 28, 2011 1:57pm Pete, I had send you a copy of that clip Tabby had years ago. Tabby had given me, Michael and Bob Sanders a DVD of the act before YOUTUBE! LOL Tabby let me see the clip to be able to do the zigzag right! It is almost word for word what is in the book. doesn't matter where the feet are positoned, or which was the hand is turned.. its all about the MIDDLE BOX and the LAYMAN spectator I miss the Tabman PMZZ forever Pete, if we go back in the time machine, we find this from Davids MAGIC! Anybody that can contact here should. I think I'll send a fax to Paul Daniels. I'm sure he would be a good one to get with her and maybe "get power of attorney" to shut down the F*****G rip off artists! I do know that Bob Lund has in his collection the original manuscripts and artwork for the fabled Harbin book! Those of us that signed the agreement and bought the Harbin book are ticked off at the ripper offers... . Harbin's way (which I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE ELSE UNDERSTAND, NOTE AND DO -- cuz they didn't read what he does IN THE BOOK) makes it a very strong piece. If you have access to the book, read what the "lady helper" from the audience does. Pushing the section a bit, it stops, "Why?" Harbin asks. "Because there is someone inside" he says... then the blades... which are narrow, and now there is a reason, as the box is pushed over 1/3... then he puts in the blades, and "Mrs. Woman" now pushes the section and IT GOES ALL THE WAY... the look on the face of the helping lady is just like the look when one reaches into the Malini Egg Bag and finds, by their own touch... the egg. . REAL MAGICAL MOMENT... Nobody does it right. Harbin told me this on two occasions. I hired him to do a show once just to study what he was doing/saying (he was happy to help me). |

Dating myself here - but the first magicians I believe (at least from TV appearances) with the ZZ in NA was Blackstone Jr and Reeven (both on Merv GRiffin? in the US) and Doug Henning in Toronto (when he was first starting out) - all 3 did it with an audience member / TV host examining during the illusion - later Stan Kramien did it with a male assistant (quite well actually) - when a master entertainer does it, it can be a work of real magic.

According to Pete, it was Mark Wilson who did the ZigZag first on Magic Circus.
