This may not be in the correct forum, so if not, please move it. This may also be common knowledge to most of y'all, but I was messing around with some poker chips that I bought from Wal-Mart and happened to have a magnet too. Sure enough, the magnet jumped to the poker chip. Just thought that this might be helpful for someone...Smile

Just realized this could be misleading. It's not the poker chips themselves that are magnetic, but they are attracted to magnets. I'm guessing it is something in the clay they were made with?

Wow! Thanks for this. I have a few sets of poker chips and only one, which is a high quality set, that reacts with magnets.

I was at WM with a pocket magnet today and there was a set that did react... darned if I didn't forget to write it down. I think it was the Poker Deluxe set. Price was about $29.99 if memory serves.

Good proper poker chips will be weighted with metal. This bit of information is not known by most people along with the fact they look plastic make them great for effects with magnets. Sean Farquer's did a lot of effects with this type of set up it was in a lectuer he did a few years ago.

All casino chips are attracted to magnets, the bigger question is, what to do with them? George , who works at the magic warehouse in Baltimore has an amazing routine where a coin changes in to a chip and ends very clean.

The set that I have just say's Poker Chip Set. It is in a plastic case and the chips are red, blue, black, and green. I don't recall the name, but I don't think they were that expensive because I wasn't wanting to pay that much for them...lol

I couldn't find the one that I got on WalMart's website. It may just be a regional thing....

Definitely not all of them. The Desert Sands $100 chips that Mark Mason uses for his Miracle Chip are not magnetic. I just bought 50 of them and tested them.

One thing you could do with them is Matrix type routine with bare hands or playing cards. Tony Torino use to sell a pennies coins thru table using the magnetic method.

With bare hands that's Chink a Chink not matrix two different effects one uses cards and coins one used hands only and coins. Shadow coin effects are not matrix. Ask the inventor of Matrix Al Schneider if they are the same.

That is why I said TYPE because the effects are the same, four objects collect to one corner. It is the same trick to an audience. Anyway the trick is un-important, it was the suggestion I was trying to get across.

Since my last posting, I have done quite bit of research on chips as I plan to buy a large number for a variety of uses. First, most chips are complete junk. I would highly suspect any bargains selling for less than fifty cents a chip. The top of the line chips are all clay. Supposedly, the best of these are made by Paulson and have an SRP of $1.50 each. THe finest chips *do not have a metal insert*. The metal inserts are put into the cheaper chips to give them the proper weight which should be around ten to twelve grams each. FWIW there is a group of people who believe that Paulson chips are highly overrated. They give several reasons for thinking this way, one of which is that they get dirty very easily as they tend to attract dust.

Here's a heads up. The beautiful Desert SAnds $100 chips are no longer being made. They have become so scarce that you can find them on Amazon selling for over $13 *each*. As I hunt further I am beginning to believe that the great looking Desert Sands $500 chips are also being discontinued. Now why would they stop making two of the finest chips in the market? It beats the heck out of me.

After four days of fruitless searching, I finally found a chip supplier who was big enough to request a special run of the Desert Sands $100 and $500 chips that I have been looking for. I immediately ordered 80 or each plus 40 of the good looking, yellow $1000 chips. PM me if you are interested in getting a set for yourself.

When they finally go into full production, I wonder how the people who bought the $100 chips for about $14 each will feel.

I stand corrected on the rareness of the Desert Sands $100 and $500 poker chips. It seems that there was only a temporary drought of these items. When I wrote to Mark Mason about the supposed scarceness of these chips, he responded by telling me that he had just acquired 2000 of them with no trouble at all. He went on to say that he had a European supplier with tens of thousands of the chips available. Meanwhile three American suppliers that I contacted were completely sold out.

Go to a gaming store that carries a wide range of card/poker supplies. Bring a magnet. check them out. I've found that many nice poker chips are attracted to magnets. In the Midwest, USA, there are game stores called, "Games by James", and they carry these chips.

Hi Hudson,

I don't want a chip attracted to magnets... I want a chip that has a strong magnet inside.

thank you for your help!

I bought several chips in Las Vegas two years ago with magnets inside. They look ordinary and actually there are the same with no magnets too. Very useful Smile I remember a Larry Becker's effect with this principle using half dollars.
