I said I would keep everyone in the loop of what I'm doing to market my public show for October 1st. The first few weeks was to create "awareness" and get publicity. I managed to get
-free radio advertising all of August and September -Television appearance on KKTV (August 5th) -Television appearance on Fox21 (September 12th) In the video, I tell you how I got the publicity for the show but it can be described in one word; Facebook Here is the blog: http://paidtoperform.blogspot.com/2011/0......ing.html Here is the video on the television appearance (Aug 5)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9eAInrsN4o Here is a recording of one of the interviews on the radio... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVB9hIQzvVw On a larger scale...all of this isn't just for the show, it is for branding |

Looks good! I watched the youtube clip and it would have been nice to have a little more energy there. The guy didn't really react to anything well.
I always get the best response out of well directed Press Releases. We do about two a year and get several TV stations and radio stations to pick up each one. After doing a couple, you know who to email and what each TV station likes to have. Honestly, the people that watch/listen to the clips is secondary to keeping the clips and using them in upcoming promotional material. That's what makes TV appearances worth it.

Nice! I'm a lover of free publicity. I have "married" joint ventures between restaurants and radio remotes with great success. Rock on!

My friend was on with them before and he told me about the male news anchor and when I met him, I immediately knew the reaction wasn't going to be great but they wanted me to perform for him. I was just happy that they changed their mind and allowed the female news anchor to be there because she always has fun.
I've sent tons of press releases before and I still can't believe how quick of a response I got through facebook. I believe it is a new age...social media is where it's at There were a few things I would have changed about the TV appearance but it was sooooo out of my comfort zone and I didn't think of certain things. They told me I only have 3 minutes and they wanted to ask questions. I never rush my performances and when someone says "Yea you can show us something but it has to be quick" then I either ignore it or don't perform for them but I can't do that with TV. The main thing that I didn't think of was to tell them to put a link to my website at the bottom instead of putting "the art of mind reading"...so people who watched it had no idea where to go to buy tickets. But I'll keep all the in mind for the interview in September |

Benji, Way to go man. With only 3 mins to do mind-reading is def. not easy, and yup, it would help a lot if they put the website on the bottom. But its awesome seeing peeps out there working it. I look forward to hearing your success story after the show.

Facebook is great, don't get me wrong. However, I have always found a multi-prong approach is best. I send releases, and put it on FB and Linked In. It all depends on which format the anchor and executives like. Some are old school when it comes to releases.
However, which ever way you use as long as it gets you a relationship with the person is the important thing. This way all subsequent events can be talked about over an email or phone call. Yeah the website would have been nice, or at least for them to mention that your information could be found on their website which is how some shows like to do it. Either way with a show for only 50, you should have no problem selling out using even strictly social media. Good luck with it!

Congrats Benji on all the press. We too were just got some good press in the Denver, Colorado Springs, market last week. Both the NBC affiliates from those markets spent their morning time slots with us. Both KOAA & KUSA on air talent went through our stunt training course and made jumps from our tower. The entertainment journalist for the Gazette(the GO! section) also went through our training and jumped. We have radio coverage coming this week. You're not far from us right now as we are one of the anchor attractions at the Colorado State Fair for the entire run. Come down & visit.
Again, congrats on the press...That is what will push your marketing over the top and fill the seats. Try and make good friends with someone at Clear Channel in Colorado Springs. They own eight radio stations in that market. Make good with one and you'll get all eight. Kevin

Benji, that is one of the best television appearances I have ever seen, you came off confident, knowledgeable, personable, and knew exactly where you wanted to take them.
You are right, you lucked out with the lady there, that guy is one of those people who does not want to be shown up in any way. I liked the way she filed in every dead spot, do to the guy boiling in his seat. Keep up the good work, I am sure you will be called back for another appearance. |

Benji - is there any way you could have received a copy of your appearance from the station?
Great segment, by the way!

Thanks Wmhegbli and Andrew.
I still haven't received the copy from the station...but I also knew it would take awhile because my friend told me it took him a month to get his copy. |

Congrats man, that was cool.
Not knowing anything about that show, I'd guess the dude is probably a dead butt about anything that's not about him. I know that's not nice to say but that's how he seemed to me. The girl was cool though and you did a fine job. I enjoy watching a performance that doesn't make want to be thinking about how it was done. I enjoyed watching you there. The only negative thing I was thinking was the over use of the word "gunna". But that's just a nitpick of mine. Overall, a very good clip. Thanks for sharing. |

Hmm...I didn't get the same vibe everyone else did from the male host. He seemed to be fine to me...nothing really stood out.
