Artie, that's a bit heavy. I contacted the seller myself because I interpreted what he wrote in such a way that I believed that he had a VHS, had it transferred to DVD for playback and archiving purposes, and was selling the lot. There is a difference between selling the original with a DVD copy for viewing and keeping the original and selling multiple DVD copies to different people.

Based on the past posts I've read of yours splice, I respect your opinion.

However, based on this statement:
"If anyone would like to know more about this DVD, just PM me directly or make a post below."

(emphasis mine) it seemed pretty clear that he was selling DVD's, not a VHS.

As you yourself pointed out that you contacted the OP with questions (as per his offer of "If anyone would like to know more..... just PM me directly or make a post below.), the OP obviously had all bases covered for anybody who was actually paying attention.

I guess if this was the Beginners Magic forum, a poster would have to be extra detailed for those who might not be so quick to understand what they were saying, but considering this forum is called "The Gambling Spot", I guess expectations are a bit higher (perhaps mistakenly so).
In a forum such as this one, is that level of hand holding really required?
It shouldn't be.

Whatever the outcome, and based on this thread, the chances of anybody offering up somewhat "underground" material ever again here are slim to non-existent ------- so, "good work" to those that apparently ruined it for everybody else who actually was paying attention, and can appreciate being offered access to somewhat difficult to acquire items like this one.

I'm not saying that the guy shouldn't have done due diligence and verified what he was buying (I did), I'm saying that I can understand some confusion on his part. He ought to have confirmed his assumptions and that's the real problem here.

As far as the rest of the thread, well.. I ain't got no horse in this race so I'll leave that alone.

Artie you wrote:

"I guess the question would have to be, are you so thick that even after reading the above you didn't know what you were buying?
or, (far more likely) are you simply looking for attention?"

What you are saying has nothing to do with what happened...Why to look for your attention?Believe me I do not need your attention!Maybe you are "Cagliostro" hiding behind another profile???What "splice" wrote is what exactly I thought:"Artie, that's a bit heavy. I contacted the seller myself because I interpreted what he wrote in such a way that I believed that he had a VHS, had it transferred to DVD for playback and archiving purposes, and was selling the lot. There is a difference between selling the original with a DVD copy for viewing and keeping the original and selling multiple DVD copies to different people."
For $35 I would never buy an illegal dvd!I thought nobody would advertise here in the Café something illegal so easy...That is why I did not give much attention...i thought I was buying the original VHS with a companion disc...I do not understand your flustration Artie...There are some rules in this world...i am sure your read them everytime you watch a magic dvd...Now if you are the one that needs attention then go and sell pirated dvds...

I can show the time I ordered it and that was immediately when I read the post...I am a collector as well and I have a huge collection with gambling history...As I said, the idea of someone to place in an open forum, something pirated for sale, never passed from my mind...What else to say,i can not believe that you support the pirates...All those destroy our art and also the creators...Ask Banachek, ask Cassidy, ask Knepper...ask them how they feel about it...Still can not understand those that you support illegal pirated copies...also Cagliostro never replied since he placed his "ad" in this forum...All I wanted was my money back since I hate the idea that I gave my money to a pirate!!!If I do not recieve a full refund the next three days, all I have to do is to follow the legal way to give an end...I have created a file with all posts,emails,addresses...Cagliostro,i think I have been very clear...

Also from the many different names you can realise that we have a "special" situation...I recieved an email from someone "Ken Bauer" but at the end he signs as John Hanson,Customer Service,Cyber Enterprises,Inc.
Anyone know this company?Cagliostro,Ken or John,i just want my money back for the pirated copy you sent to me!

I have not realised and ordered from him...I recieved an illegal copy of a vhs to dvd...really bad quality and nothing new...actually I just watched 3 minutes and it was so boring...i reported the situation to paypal and the seller denied a refund...if he continues I will take it to the law...I have all his details...

1908, I realize that you're probably not a native English speaker, and that's OK. But I'm pretty sure sentences end with a single period in most languages and there's a space after that period and the next sentence starts with a capital. Please put a little effort in writing your posts. They make my eyes hurt. Also see the Magic Café posting guidelines.

OK Enzo, thanks for the suggestion.Greek is my native language and I am trying my best. You could easily PM me since that comment has nothing to do with my post or the subject.I would love to hear your thoughts for the main subject instead of my poor grammar. Also speaking for grammar, all my sentences start with capital and first time I hear that I have to place space after a full stop!Anyway,i am very proud for my language and you can read a lot in wikipedia:

"The Greek alphabet is a set of twenty-four letters that has been used to write the Greek language since the 8th century BC.[2] It is still in use today. It is the first and oldest alphabet in the narrow sense that it notes each vowel and consonant with a separate symbol.[3] The letters were also used to represent Greek numerals, beginning in the 2nd century BC."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet

Anyway, since I realised something from all your comments,i will not reply in this post anymore,i will do what I have to do...Thanks for the support!

This is an English-language forum and in English, one separates words by spaces, regardless whether they are followed by commas, (see?), exclamation points, question marks or periods. If you weren't aware of this, I'm glad to have been of help. However although I do know that the ancient Greeks had no punctuation, a quick look here shows me that you've picked it up since and that you do add a space after your words.

Nonetheless, my post wasn't meant as a personal attack, but more as a general comment to make people aware that spelling, grammar and punctuation conventions are there for a reason: they facilitate communication. This is also the reason that I didn't PM you but posted it on this forum.

Back on topic, I agree with the rest here that you could have know it was a copy of a VHS. On the other hand, I agree with you that saying you're selling an (illegal) copy of a VHS tape (i.e., covering all your bases) doesn't make it any more legal. I wish you all the best with your efforts to get your money back, and I hope that at least this topic has served as a warning to others.

I purchased the DVD from Cagliostro, am thankful to have been offered access to some long unavailable and rare footage, and couldn't be happier watching what is obviously an example of some "real work". Maybe not the best work ever put on film, but "real work" of a high enough quality that it's worth watching.

I love the DVD, and would buy it all over again exactly as it was offered in this thread.

Anybody ordering this DVD and not knowing from the OP's statements what it was all about really ought to give their head a shake ---- or go back to working with sponge bunnies.

Ok Mr."Fufkin" you are free to support thieves and buy pirated copies. As for me I gave my head a few shakes and I am playing with my sponge bunnies! Thanks for the suggestion! As for the "rare" footage,i watched a bit more and found nothing new.Maybe you are a beginner in this field that is why you feel such an enthousiasm about kids gambling demonstrations. Most probably you have never seen "real workers".Anyway,my sponge bunnies say hello to you!

In a section of the Café that should for the most part be called "The Cheating Spot," better still, in a thread about about a product specifically aimed at cheating, there's a sub-discussion about the ethics of pirating videos? That's awesome. Anyone who feels ripped off for being duped (pun intended) into buying an illegal video should just pretend they lost the money in, say, a poker game because somebody got over on them by dealing a perfect second. That should make the whole experience more palatable.

Or perhaps the main complaint was about the picture quality. In which case, well, I guess the same advice applies. It's just not as funny.

I have every intention of doing just that, and thanks for your personal endorsement.
You are, however, starting to sound dangerously like a mentalist.

Let us know how that goes, and how you get "better reactions" with your sponge rabbit bit.

Here, let me get you a soft tissue so you can dab those tears of yours.
In the spirit of never giving "game to a lame", I sincerely hope your money gets refunded to you, and that copy you made of the DVD fails to actually play.
