Hi, All (or, being in Texas, I'm obliged to say, "Howdy!")
Like so many others, apparently, I'm a recently repatriated magic-worker, via the auspices of a 30-year old stack of "Magic Magazine" issues. When I was a kid I ate, breathed and slept magic (definite preference for sleight of hand and close-up work), though I'd begun to expand into parlor and even stage magic. Time passed ... flip through college, life adventures around the world, becoming a computer geek and meeting / marrying the Love of My Life and building a family of prodigious size and we're in my "here and now". So, a couple months ago, I get a package in the mail from my mother who's been cleaning out the garage and come across a mouldering stack of my old "Magic Magazine" copies from the '70's. Now that I'm a big boy, she wants my junk out of her garage! Of course I flip through each cherished copy before handing them over to my kids for their entertainment and, in the process, find myself mysteriously trying out a trick or two in front of the bathroom mirror after wifey is in bed. Odd.... <grin> Well, the magic bug bites a few of the kids and, of course, I'm the local consulting authority on the subject and number one fan of each <smile>. It's really weird being the Dad who is constantly badgered to "pick a card, any card" or coming home from work, "hey Dad -- can you help me with a new trick I'm working on?", but I'm telling ya, guys, it doesn't get much better! So nice to be around such a fun bunch of folks! david (BTW, for any other "time capsule" magicians like me, isn't it really weird to try and get your brain around how the world of magic has changed in the last 30 or so years? The Internet alone has radically changed so much... Just, weird, that's all!) ;-) |

Welcome David Mills,
What a fun story! The changes in Magic are weird for those who were involved throughout as well. -Mary Mowder |

Welcome David!
Not to different a story for me - I got serious the first time when my kids were young so I could give them a magic show at their birthday parties! There friends had clowns, which was not in our budget (was in the Army then). Fast forward 20 years and kids are out of the house so back to magic with a real passion for the past 3 years. Looking forward to the grand kids now . Hudson |

Similar story here David. I hope your kids stay with it. My son lost interest after a year or so. If I show him something now, he just wants to know how it's done. I sure miss sharing secrets with him. Welcome to the Café!
