And, Yes - the JOL stamped stuff from the likes of Top Secret are mass produced and not by Jerry! I nearly cried when I got my mini-himber - it was NOTHING like the original mottled leatrher FLAT wallet that Jerry used to make. (AND the 'business' inside was opposite to the original - which was of vital importance to me!)

Exactly Kissdadookie - a cheap replacement and I'm surprised Jerry put his initials to it.

I don’t think that any of Jerry’s original wallets ever had the JOL logo on them. This only came about after he had them made by an out source manufacturer and maybe due to the high demand for his products.

This has evolved into a very interesting thread, especially for me as I'm in the hunt for my first CTW. I was certatin to go with a JOL due to its quality, as stated before my Sho-Gun is great. But I'm very fussy when it comes to quality, everything has to be perfect lol, (a little OCD on my part). Now the Mesika Wallet has become a contender in my search as I have seen it and the quality looks great.

Check out Tony's website (see his post above). I've just been onto it and he's got some really nice looking, tempting products. I had to click out quickly as I could have spent £150 there and then! What is it with us lot and bloody magic wallets?

By the way, there's NOTHING wrong with wanting things to be perfect - just make sure that you check out the market before taking on board ill-informed recommendations.

Anyone had experince with doing CTW unfolded with a Mesika Wallet? It's blurb says it can be done, on the other hand I've heard its impractical.

Can be done and should be done are two very different things Smile If you don't mind chintzy feeling leather, the JOL wallets are actually perfectly fine. The Mesika wallet is actually along the same line in terms of quality with the mass produced JOL stuff. If you do care, I would take a look at Tony Curtis's offerings.

Will it be available only online or will it be available at stores such as Davenports?

Murphy's Magic will have them soon so magic dealers will be able to order direct from them.

For anyone interested here is some history regarding the Shogun Wallet. It was originally Elbert L Gardner’s idea and Al’s Magic Shop owned the rights. I got permission to make the index pocket Shogun Wallet in 2004 for my Time Warp effect. After that I designed the Heirloom Wallet for Alakazam Magic followed by the Kolossal Killer wallet for Kenton Knepper.

So Craig Dickson's post in regards to the Heirloom not being authorized is incorrect (it's basically the index pocket Shogun that you've received permission for).

I would be very interested to see Craig Dickson's post in regards to the Heirloom Wallet not being authorized as I have written evidence to support that I can manufacture a Shogun style wallet which has an index pocket system.

I have just found Craig's post but standby my previous statement that I received permission to make an index pocket Shogun style wallet in 2004.

Elbert granted Al manufacturing rights when he was in business. Elbert said he maintained all intellectual property, and manuafacturing rights. I always told him, when he was ready, I would purchase sole rights to this. A number of years ago, after a stroke, Elbert phoned me and said he was ready, so we did that, I have notarized documents to that end. I do not doubt Al told you it was OK in 2004 to make an index pocket Shogun style wallet. Beyond that it is grey area, but I will not go there at all. As far as I am concerned, all you have that is existing is fine. At least you did ask. There was a similar instance with Tony Milller, they gave him limited permission to make one wallet incorporating it into his design. Tony told me about it when we were at Magi-Fest one year since he knew I now owed the rights, and despite our teasing, we have the highest respect for one another. All those agreements have passed since I own sole rights to it now.

Am I accusing you of stealing? No way. We are friends and hopefully will be for a long time to come. There have to be 20 wallets out there all claiming to have included the Sho-Gun principal into them. As far as I know now, only two people ever asked permission, you and Tony Miller. I have no problem with that for existing products by either of you. That is for the record. But no one has permission to include this or the name in any wallet yet to be developed or manufactured, or currently being manufactered with out permission. What I have a problem with is all those who just take what they want, use it, never ask nor credit those who did all the work on it or own rights. That is not me, not you, or not Tony.

Someone made a comment of the instructions with the JOL Sho-Gun. What they are are the original instructions included with the original Sho-Gun. This was to honor the originators and guys who made it famous. Elbert made them, Al Cohen made them famous, preserving that history is important to me. I well know there are so many newer killer uses for it. Eventually I will do a DVD of some of this an include it, but I told Elbert his name will always be associated with it, Al Cohen as well. That is just basic respect, something also very important to me.

As Spock said "Live Well and Prosper". Miss seeing you at Blackpool by the way. Smile
