I have just received Lance Pierce's version of the Chinese Charming Challenge. Along with the routine follows some very nice
chinese coins. But they are the size of a dollar coin. And I really prefer to work with half dollar size coins. I would prefer a coin that is pretty thick and on the heavy side. I find the Sterling chinese coins too thin and light... Can anyone help? Thanks, Daniel |

Johnson's Hong Kong coins are very good, ideal thick and weight for performing Chinese Charming Challenge but expensive ($35 ea plus shipping)

Daniel, my best advice is to practice using the Chinese Coins you already have. That is the best way to get use to it so you will be more comfortable. The skills do not come from the coins, it depends how we handle the coins from practicing and feeling relaxed. If you disagree with me your best bet is to call up Schoolcraft and tell him how many milligrams and ounces you want your Chinese Coins to be custom made.
I use dollar size coins the most. A lot of moves are harder to learn that way, but I want my coins to be more visual to those who are farther away. Good luck. |

The Tango Chinese Coins (half dollar size) have a really nice weight for their size - and certainly feel a bit thicker and 'chunkier' than many others I've seen through the years.

Does anyone have the Charming Chinese Challenge set from Joshua Jay's site? These in particular: https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/......allenge/
I don’t know if the coins are dollar or half-dollar size. Anyway, if anyone here has this set can you comment on them please? Nice? Or not? Thank you. Jim |

How about these coins from Seo
http://www.seomagic-usa.com/catalog/prod......s_id/335 they are exactly the same size as the US half dollar and weigh the same. These are the exact same coins Ponta uses in his DVD, discussed elsewhere on the Café' |

I prefer to use Sterling's chinese half dollar coin size instead of the dollar size coins for CCC, specially for the dramatic tossing and mid-air linking in the Troy's routine. I have also Lance Pierce's version of CCC and dollar size coins, but I think the original routine by T Hoouser as taught in his DVD is far superior.

I have seen Joshua Jay's set and they are very nice. They are thin, but they have to be in order to do this trick. I think that they are the size of a silver dollar.

They are very nice (though not authentic looking), and both the U.S. Half-Dollar and the U.S. Silver Dollar sizes work very well for the Charming Chinese Challenge, but they are nowhere near as thin as the Sterling Chinese coins. |

You can use almost any set of Chinese coins, but here are some things that you need to check for CCC:
1. A Chinese coin with a circular hole. You don't want any kind of snagging to go on. 2. Adequate weight, a Chinese coin that weighs close to a half dollar will work best. 3. Last but not least, look for Chinese coins that the design will not wear easily. My personal Chinese coins that I use are Johnsons, both half and dollar size.
One for the money...., 2 for a pass..., 3 for a Fly..., and 4 for matrix!

The ones I originally saw used reminded me of the Sterling Realistic Chinese Coin. I got mine originally years ago from Ben Stone. Some sites also sell a set of the 4 coins underneath the DVD.
Sterling only wholesales these days. Harris

I agree with using a thinner, larger coin. It helps with the deception when presenting what is supposed to be less coins, but is actually more than stated (hope that makes sense). I have Joshua's coins, and they work pretty well, but there is some degree of unwanted friction during some of the moves.
I bought a set of Chinese coins from Joe Mogar and they are wonderful. When the coins need to slide against each other, they feel like ice. They are thin and wonderfully milled on the edges. Mine are dollar sized, which I perfer, but he may have half dollar sized. For me, Joe's coins have made this effect much easier to perform than Joshua's coins. Sammy
