Slowly coming to realise how much it would benefit me to have a very convincing tabled double in my arsenal...my that I mean, doing a DL with one hand whilst the deck is on the table, not putting a double down...
I know DaOrtiz extensively uses the move but I'm unaware of anything published by him. Does anybody have any sources/tips? Thanks |

I teach my method for a tabled double in one of my books - perhaps someone will do the research for you (I'm not near my books at the moment).

Definitely check out Ascanio's work on the subject.

Jon Armstrong teaches a Gin Pick (tabled double) on an episode of Reel Magic (not sure witch episode) that looks great.

You can find Harry's Double Put-Down in Deck-Sterity (pg. 13), or Lorayne: The Classic Collection (pg. 260).

Appreciate the references. The fact that the Ascanio work isn't in my collection is quite appalling, I'll set that straight as soon as possible. I imagine, as DaOrtiz was a student of Ascanio, that is where he learnt the basic idea from.

Probably. He was a master in all regards, but double work was his thang (and it's a sight to behold).

Rafael Benatar explains a nice tabled double on Elegant Card Magic, in connection with his effect "hot transposition".

That is indeed me. What gave it away? The terrible self-satisfaction?

The magic of Ascanio volumes the best/only way to go? |

I figured as much. I haven't met too many Ruairidhs in my day, hehe.
I wouldn't say the only way to go, as all the other suggestions are great and there has been a lot of work on the subject. But yeah, Acanio has some great concepts regarding tabling doubles. Plus, the books are just great. The first is a book on his theory--some of the finest thinking around--and the next two books are his card magic--some of the finest card magic around. btw, one more suggestion from me is Paul Wilson's. I know it's on of his DVDs, but I couldn't tell you which at the moment. It's a neat piece of technique. |

AM I going nutters, or is the OP asking how to lift a double from a tabled deck, and people are answering with resources teaching how to set down a double on the table, while having the deck in hand? Maybe I just need to be upside down when reading this. Or maybe I already am...
Someone please read this and give me a hint on my current mental health: Quote:

You are right, Michael. Most answers are about tabling a double which has nothing to with the question asked. These are sources for doing a double lift off a tabled deck: http://archive.denisbehr.de/show.php?cat=1240

I'm not sure where its published, I saw it on video by someone who learned it personally from him I think. Dani DaOrtiz has a major DVD set coming out in English, probably wanna check that out, even though I think his methods ( the ones I've seen anyway ) is something anyone can arrive at if he puts time in studying the concept. |

Jon Armstrong's Gin Pick is published in his "Thoughts from a Former Boy Wonder" lecture notes. Possibly an easier source might be the Apocalypse volumes. I'm pretty sure that Juan Tamariz published a double ambitios card in an issue that used a tabled double lift. Not sure of how much detail went into the description.

I learned my tabled double from a Harry Lorayne book (Deck-Sterity, noted above).
Like all of Mr. Lorayne's technical writing and sleight descriptions, it is a clear, concise and very workable solution. Highly recommended.
"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |

For those who don't know - Deck-Sterity is among the other four books re-written, updated, etc., in the first The Classic Collection volume. HL.

Thanks.
Yes DLs from a tabled deck was what I was looking for but the work of Ascanio certainly looks like I'll add it to my collection. I'll take a look at the Classic Collection Harry, but annoyingly I already have three of the original texts so justifying the purchase is difficult. Thanks for the other replies, I shall look into the sources. |
