How many of you update your web site for the holiday season?

If so, in what way?

I noticed that Magic Café added the 9/11 to the website, very nice touch. I thought that maybe it would be a nice touch to add a Halloween tag and then switch to Thanksgiving, Christmas then New Years’.

Or do some of you change your programs offered to include your seasonal shows? I do have a Halloween and Christmas show but I’ve never had it on my web site because I didn’t see the benefit to it. Maybe I should add it to my site.

Is the payoff worth the hassle?

Any thoughts?

Depending on what market(s) you perform for you may want to include a note on each of your offerings ie. Halloween show, Christmas Show etc. at all times on your site(s).

As examples, some recreation depts. for cities will book up to 6 months (some even earlier) in advance. This is tied to "getting everything done up now" and also printing schedules and city event bulletins that go out to citizens. Some younger daycares will book a year in advance, and some others will book packages of shows for an entire year when they are doing their calendar of activities for that year.

If your market is company family events at Christmas time than a specific site/page added could be effective, but it should go up at least 6 months in advance of the holiday. Planning for many of these events start after the Summer holidays. Of course, the adult party planning could be a year or two in advance depending on the city and type of event they have. We have a major firm here in Montreal that has booked the NHL hockey arena for it's Christmas party several years in a row, but this past year down sized it to our 3,000 seat theatre. These locations are booked well in advance!!

The 4 events you listed are VERY close together so changing for each one would only be for those last minute, late bookers.

Just my thoughts on this, of course.

Making occasional changes to your home page content is actually something you want to do regardless of the season. The search engines give some weighting to sites which are regularly updated (based on a checksum comparison of the HTML content from the previous time the page was indexed). I would not recommend changing your overall branding to reflect the holidays, but rotating in photos and video which were appropriate to the types of venues and gigs you land in a given season would make sense. If someone comes back to your site every month or two, they should see some different visuals. This communicates (or builds the illusion, at least) that you are busy and in demand. Which implies that you are good and would be a good call for their event. Smile

Thanks for the input everyone. It’s interesting to see how this internet thing has progress through the years.
