In a short film, "Dark Magic" (1939), John Scarne played a demonstrator at a shop, doing a Cups and Balls routine; here's a video clip:

It's not his "Stars of Magic" routine, sorry. -)

PS: Sorry about the poor video at the beginning; it clears up, though.

Nice
"Oh Mr. Calypso!"
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

Even being a seasoned cups and balls performer and knowing exactly what he was doing, I was still very entertained. I like that routine there! Thanks you for posting, Larry.

It's interesting to see John Scarne in person - I grew up reading "The Odds Against Me", his autobiography, and am so used to seeing photos of him. It's nice to get a sense of how he speaks and moves, as well.

It's a shame there aren't more and better videos of Scarne. I've seen some of the gambling expose videos, but only with very poor quality video.

Of course, we get to see his hands for a few moments in "The Sting", so I've read. -)

Scarne, at that time was really good. Did you see the rope routine from the same film on another thread at "Rings, Strings and Things?"

And a mighty fine trick at that. It was a pleasure to see this old footage. I love black & white.
