From the post I did just a few ago about meeting people...
I would love to know if there is a directory of friends from this Café with e-mails and where you are located. If not, I would like to volunteer to make a simple one: Name, focus (bizarre/cards/clown, etc.), e-mail and city, state or country... So, for example, if someone visits somewhere—they'll have a connection/friend from the Café to see there. What do you think? Steve B., is this okay? Ellen harryandersonfan.com |

I think it's a great idea.
I would caution against typing your email address in a post since there are webbots that scour pages for email addresses to send you ads for things like herbal viagra and similar junk.

Good point Rob, this is a definite drawback, and a very real threat. Maybe we could come up with a way of writing the address that the webbots won't recognize. (Generally they just search for anything with a xxxx@xxxxx.xxx format, note the way that even the Café is set to pick up on this format and has made the address into a clickable link.)
We could possibly write our addresses in a different format EG: czampese*powerfarming,co,nz This can be easily translated (swap the "*" for "@" and the "," for ".") but should stop automated systems picking up the address? I think it is a great idea Ellen, what do you think Steve?

Guys
Instead of web-basing it I thought I could do it in Word and then send everyone a copy (via e-mail). I know the member list is huge, but how many people are current, and how many people would like to actually be a part of a list (to connect in town, country etc.)? I dunno. Ellen |

I think it would be cool.
MAYBE this would work. Someone would have to be in charge of it (Ellen perhaps you? Steve is super busy I assume). Anyway whoever is in charge creates a new free account such as Memberlist@whatever.com They post that address here adding characters such as *, x, #, etc. That way the webbots won't pick up the true address. Anyone interested is to send an email to the address (minus the extra characters mind you) and then the administrator or whatnot can enter it into a database (perhaps in Excel or Access?) Then you can send the file as an attachment over to everyone on the list. Another thought is to include Rules of Agreement. If you choose to take part in this you understand that you are opening yourself up to some stranger from the Café emailing you, etc. This will take the heat off the Administrator. Chris |

Sounds good to me, just if we can try to keep out the spammers like Rob said.

I guess if someone changes the dots to commas.
OK...I will make up this directory...in Word. Anyone interested in being part of a "connection" list, possibly saying "Hi" or meeting with other people in different cities, countries if you travel there or need connections? This list will need your name, e-mail (send with commas instead of periods to confuse spammers), your area or interest in magic, and city, state/country. E-mail your info to: harryandersonfan@yahoo.com with the subject MC Connection List. I will collect names for two weeks and then compile all onto a list. Upon completion I'll e-mail you the list in Word. Thanks...I think this will be great to be able to meet up with friends if you travel or help people out when you are in the neighborhood. Ellen |

Would also be an idea to include your Café log in name, especially if it is quite different from your real name! We might not recognise you on the list otherwise!

How's it going Ellen, just thought I would get this post back on the first page so others could see it!

Ellen, please don't feel bad. Do remember a lot of the guys (and gals) were getting ready for the convention and many of them left early.
We will make sure to keep this on top for a week. Maybe one of the staff will be gracious enough to stick it up on top? Chris |
