Well I know I've got it covered, I plan on watching, but have the DVR set to record it just in case, and I had ordered the DVD from Amazon before I posted about it earlier.

Well, I enjoyed the parts with Peanut and José and with Little Jeff. And I was very impressed by the laughs-per-minute in his routines.

I just don't think any comedy--vent or stand-up--works as well on TV as live. Saw Jeff live earlier this year and laughed much more than I did last night. I was glad to see that some of the somewhat racist, xenophobic jokes were gone from the act. The audience was obviously charged up and ready to laugh at anything, but, as in previous specials, I thought that the degree of laughter was excessive for the jokes.

Don't get me wrong. I think Jeff is an extraordinarily talented vent and comic and obviously GREAT for our field. For some reason, it doesn't come across on TV.

Bob,
You laughed much more live, but thought on TV the laughter was excessive for the jokes? The theatre audience had the same live experience you did. (Many of the same jokes probably.) That is what creates those laughs. Having been there on the Spark of Insanity taping - I can guarantee the laughs are real.

Unfortunately, I also felt it didn't carry across the screen on this one. No knock on Jeff - he did a great job.

I dunno guys, I thought it came across great. I have to admit, I don't love AJ (or Achmed so much, for that matter) but Jeff's a brilliant performer. I felt the special was as good at the first one, which I though was great. I do think comedy is best live and in person, but I felt the special conveyed the experience reasonably well. I especially liked the opening bit with the family photos, and the brilliant finale with the four characters and five voices (including Jeff's). It was a rare display of virtuosity that was actually very, very funny.

I don't think I expressed myself well. What I meant was that I think the TV taping audience is primed and ready to laugh at anything, delivering guffaws even for modest jokes. I didn't get that impression live; maybe the jokes were better (and they were different from the special's jokes.)

I've noticed this a lot on TV. Watch any number of comics on Comedy Central, and the audience is laughing like crazy at jokes which strike me, at least, as not very funny. But when I watch someone like Chris Rock on TV, I laugh as much as the theater audience.

I agree that the multi-voice bit (which Jeff did regularly many years ago) was great and extremely well done.

Well, I'll add my 2 cents, which is what it's worth (probably less). It seems we all agree that Jeff is a brilliant vent, and his success is just awesome and certainly well-deserved. I've also seen him live at a few comedy clubs, and of course at the conVENTions and have loved him every time I have seen him. Plus, I discovered a new-found respect for him after reading his book. However, last night just didn't do it for me at all. Didn't like AJ, nor the way he ended his show. In fact, I much prefer earlier Jeff, before he became SO famous. I am happy for him, and I realize that it is great for vent, but I just prefer his earlier stuff. Again, just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.
