What other methods do you all have for straightening out cards that are in a back palm position? Sometimes during a course of a card manipulation routine, the cards in BK get out of alignment. I am curious to see any other techniques. The pivot works really well for me and I usually use this. Any others?

How often does this happen to you Kyle? Is this something a manipulator has to worry about or will practice help it out? I am not good enough to know yet if I will be having this problem but I do now. What if my routine is with the music and the cards become out of place? Could this throw me off?

I answered in a different post, I will quote my answer in a second. I'm sure it's something that can't be avoided. The cards don't get majorly out of alignment, but even a fraction can make producing a fan difficult, and sometimes disastrous!

I have found producing the whole stock (maybe 13 max) as one card gives you an excellent opportunity to square up the cards. You can then peel one off the face and re backpalm the rest of the stock. |

It can happen to you as the more cards you have in a stack in the backpalm postion during your routine. Because I tend to change my moves and transition the moves during my card routine, the cards can get slightly out of alignment. This just makes it a bit more difficult to do my fans and slip production singles.
I try to avoid this by putting in a pivot move right before critical moves in the act where I really must have the cards aligned correctly. I find that the pivot will always align my cards well and keep the edges straight for me. I am sure there are other methods, like what Kevin mentioned above. I wonder what has worked for others?

If you go from back palm position into the "perfect production" position, you will naturally square up the cards. You could produce one card as a block, peel it off and drop, produce the block, and then go back to back palm position peeling one card off for cover. You can check this out in Jeff McBride's AOCM 3 under the Mercury Card Production. You get the added bonus that the audience sees the front and back of your hand and is left even more amazed. This move may save you in sticky situations. Good Luck.

I think if a card manipulation act is routined properly there shouldn't be a problem with having to straighten cards impromptly during an act.

Kevin:
That is very true indeed. However, I always like to have an "out" in the chance that something should go wrong, I have a solution to fix the problem without the audience ever realizing it. I guess it is just a part of me being a perfectionist about these things. Thanks for all the great advice.
