I'm so not gonna say the 21 card trick.
really, some of the best beginner tricks are those that teach you new things. for example, a double lift is one to learn early. the glide too. I'll PM ya for more tips.

A reference can be found of the four robbers in "Ellis Stanyon's Best Card Tricks" by dover, on page 30. The effect is common, so you might be able to find it among other sauces as well. Magically Aus |

I can do some stuff like false triple cuts and stuff where you find the person's cards.

I recommend RRTCM if you are lacking skills. Practice in a mirror until you nail it over and over.

Start with any Gaffed deck. They are easy and very satisfying to do.

Gemini Twins in Karl Fulves book, and Poker Player's Picnic in RRTCM. Both effect are impromptu, and spec is handling the deck all the time!
Also crazyman's handcuff, I never go out without a pair of rubberbands. You can also use the same CMH move to penetrate rings, pen, fingers, etc. Bong |

There are lots of tricks in Royal Road to Card Magic that are great for beginners. I particlularly like "Design for Laughter" and "A Tipsy Trick". Both of which are very easy to execute and have lots of impact in my (short) experience.

I love the Fool's Monte, and Vanishing Jack. Also do in almost every presentation the Wild Eight, as well as the old favorites: Svengali, Stripper and Invisible Deck. And don't leave your D'lite behind.
All the best! Dynamite

Guys, I strongly think that beginners should NOT start out with gimmicks or gaffed decks. Learn some basic sleight of hand first (double lifts, palms [however sloppy]). Then you are prepared whenever some one hands you a deck and wants to see an effect. I personally am a purist (so far). It is much more rewarding to actually use sleight of hand instead of gaffed decks. I strongly suggest you learn some at least basic sleight of hand before gimmicks and gaffs.

The first one that I actually demonstrated with any proficiency was 'Design for Laughter' from Royal Road. If you ham this one up a LOT then it is genuinely surprising. It takes a little too long for use everyday though.

Two easy to learn tricks, depending on which type of magic you prefer...
1) Scotch and Soda: Started out learning magic with this one. Great effect, seems impossible, and soooo easy to do! 2) Deep Astonishment: No fancy moves, just need to memorize the routine. But you'll look like an A Class mind reader with it! |
