One of my favorite effects to constantly twist and warp to find a good, workable solution for is the Cap In Bottle. I have largely always made my own sets and really never went after any of the marketed versions. However, now, I am curious about two of them and if anyone has used either of them (or both) and can offer some insight or a little review of both, I would most appreciate it.
The two versions in question are Prohibition by Charlie Justice and Captured by Justin Miller. I know that like any other two similar items, each will have their own ups and downs, and what I am trying to find out is what those are for each of them, and how they compare to each other, as well as the old traditional method. Thanks you. |

Prohibition-
Pros- Impromtu Very clean Cons- Done in magicians hands Requires a special 'something' Captured- Pros- Can be done in spectators hands Cap can not be removed without breaking bottle Cons- Requires set up Both are good but I prefer Prohibition. |

Another vote for prohibition, the extra something doesn't make a real difference whether you use it or not and you might already carry one anyway. Have the cap in your back pocket bent already and do the trick if a bottles near. Visual to.

Prohibition! It's been one of my workers ever since it came out.

No question Prohibition! There is 2.0 out now, and man, this looks like real magic!

I ordered the 2 DVD version of Prohibition (which is the 2.0 that Dougini mentions) and I got it last Friday. It is awesome - I love it! I have always done a full cap in bottle (such as Rey Ben, et al.) and never really liked the application of a bent cap into the bottle - until now! This handling is killer and the bonus DVD is worth the price of the original too.
Thanks for the suggestion everyone! |

That's another one! Yes! I contacted Charlie Justice about this, and he said Axel has a green light, so check it out! Gotta warn ya, the price might be a bit steep!

I had considered the Axal Hecklau version some time ago, and I still have my eye on it. It just looks so clean!
Thanks for the suggestion Oliver! |

What does everyone think of 'Abyss' by The Enchantment?

It absolutely kills, but you just have to be careful how you handle the bottle before performing the effect. More often than not, I would set up three or four of them when using this version because unlike some cap in bottle versions, you cannot set this one up on the fly and minimally, it requires a tool. In the end, Abyss is a coin in bottle, not a cap in bottle, but it is very good. |

Now, Abyss is another method entirely!
I like Abyss, because it lets you put an actual COIN in the bottle that they can keep. I've done Abyss several different ways, and my favorite is using a Canadian quarter. Owners of Abyss will understand. Doug |

Thanks for the info! Is abyss clean and can it be done well with British coins?

Hi cwaj400!
Yes, British Coins work (the intructions will tell you which ones ). In fact, any country's coin! Clean? Yes, cleanup is a breeze! |

Actually, most coins the size of the U.S. Quarter will work just fine. I have even used a few coins that are slightly bigger than that, but much bigger than that and you cannot use them.
As Dougini said, once it is ready to go, it looks very good and is very clean. In fact, you can even drink from the bottle once it is set up, if you so desire (and you sanitize the apparatus before you do). |

I don't mean to hijack a thread.. but for some history behind the cap in bottle trick...
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=177 you may go back to the original thread now.. By the way.. Prohibition is VERY clean.. and if you have the proper jewelry.. it's a near miracle. |

The "Abyss" principle can work with glass containers as well. Starbucks coffee bottles come to mind...

Prohibition is just great but it seems that it has now been quite widely exposed and a lot of lay people know the method. A REAL shame.

Jugglestruck, you are SPOT ON!
When I lived in Florida, I was called on it. Someone saw the (curse word) Masked Magician, and happily told everyone how it was done! Luckily I live in Maine, now, and I don't think anyone has seen that yet. These people don't seem to watch TV up here, and thank God for that! |
