You place five playing cards on the table. You then show the Spectator a poker chip that has a prediction on one side. You ask the Spectator to mix up the five cards so they are not in any particular order. You ask the Spectator to place the poker chip onto any one of the five playing cards. When you turn over the poker chip, and the playing card, the prediction on the back of the poker chip matches the playing card chosen by the Spectator -- that's 'Gambit'. No sleight of hand needed Everything you need is supplied You just supply your own deck. Comes with DVD with full explanations looks great! |

Doesn't look great to me.
As a piece of mentalism its pretty dire and suffers from many of the same issues as that celebrity card prediction from the other week. As a piece of mental magic it is ok but I think his sleights need some work... but then that isn't what he is selling.

This is an old thread, but not long ago I dusted this off and brought it out. I am rather enjoying it. For any of you who have played with this, I made a little change to the handling. it seemed to me that it was a bit odd that the selection was apparently a random participant selection, but my prediction was somehow in that random selection. One might say that is an additional effect itself, but I think it is stronger for me to select five cards from the deck to begin the routine. I feel it does a better job of establishing a mysterious link to the participant, in the moment. I have also been playing with using a business card instead of a chip and writing the prediction on the business card, after they are removed from the deck and shown to the participant. To me, it also establishes a mysterious link to the participant right there on the spot. As Eugene Burger says, predictions are typically a problem because it is an entirely different dynamic. A prediction says you came into this with something you were going to force on the participant and the premise is perhaps you are controlling their mind. He says that if someone can control my mind, I wouldn't want them as a friend. So, it creates an immediate, perhaps even subconscious, adversarial situation. I agree with Eugene. I thought I would share these thoughts with any of you who have some interest in this effect.
I personally am really enjoying Dee's creation here. kj |
