Does the stuff on volumes 1 and 2 require any gimmicks? what I mean by that is do you need extra props to make the mentalism happen or just a deck of cards for volume 2 and just some envelopes ofr voumes 1? or do you need additional props for stuff like thoughtscan

David,
I cannot vouch for vol 1 yet as it is still in the post on its way to me, but vol 2 needs only a pack of cards. That is one of the reasons I love it so much. Merlin |

Certainly is. Sometimes have to give people ID to persuade them to believe me, though!

I recently bought Volumes #1 and 3.
I enjoyed both volumes very much. I found Richard to be a very engaging, entertaining personality. His rapport with the audience is excellent. The routines on vol. 1 are very solid, and in one instance, the watch routine, a killer. There's also a very nice peek involved with the watch routine that you'll use for lots of other routines. Volume 3 includes some classic effects, including some handlings for the NW gimmick. He also has a very nice spoon bending routine; watching his timing on this was quite a lesson in misdirection. Osterlind's mechanics aren't as ingenious as say Maven's subtle ideas, but his audience impact, to my mind, is ultimately greater. He is so likeable and warm (check out the ending to his opening Bank Night routine) that you can't help rooting for him--and he comes through in spades! I think he is one smart performer and I thank him for releasing these DVDs. Jack Shalom

For those of you who have the vol 4, can you tell me if his torn and restored signed newspaper is good?
Thanks Johnny |

Goign back to the osterlind stack, I have already commited to memory the aronson stack and I think I will continue using it. yes, it isn't cyclical, but I don't mind doing the extra calculation because if you know your mem. deck well, it will be very easy to do any calculation. and you wont really have to "calculate" anything in your head in any case...i can simply see a card and know the position. don't knowif this makes sense but I think commiting one stack to memory is all you need to do any stack or mem. deck routine, and it is best to commit to memory one from a magician like Tamariz or aronson that has revealed countless routines using the particular stack and you can also use the stacks for the routines richard reveals on his dvds too.

I got these dvd's a few days back, and love them completly.
I'm particular intrigued about his Breakthrough system (vol 2), and the Radar Deck (vol 1). I started to make my own deck as soon I saw Richard perform it, and had explained the method. This set will keep me occupied during the comming weekend. Much Recomended. Peo

Spectator selects a page from a newpaper - it is signed across the face of the page - then torn and restored. I think it pained Mr. Osterlind to give this away! Best torn and restored newspaper effect I have seen. |

I have only watched volume 1 and am really enjoying it. The routines are great as are Richard's thinking and subtlies.

I have vol 2 and this is the best. Richard's personality comes through as though he is real and not at all acting. This appears more natural to me.
His BCS took me about 2 hours to get down and Im using it with strong reactions having owned the DVD about a week now. Jon seems to always have a front row seat:) He seems very interested in magic/mentalism and I was wondering if he is a magician? Wayne

I found volume 1 to be excellent. great mentalism pieces involved there. I wasnt too impressed with volume 2. the tricks to me seemed pretty obvious and not really original. then again I'm thinking like a magician again...damn!

Sapolice,
Jon is not a magician. I started a thread about this Jon guy over at magictricks.co.uk a few weeks ago and as the thread developed, one of the guys, Richie, took it upon himself to ask L&L publishing directly. Below is the reply we received: "Hi Richie, The gentelmen that you are asking about David (black guy) & John (mustache) They are friends of the owners and of L&L they are not magcians. They do have very good reactions and are always amazed. I guess that is why they end up in the front row. As a magician you know how great it is for a great reaction. But please don't think that they are paid to over react, they are at the video shoots to enjoy and to participate in the videos. They are simply amazed and are having a great time. We do Thank You for your conitinued business. If you have any questions or wish to place an order please contact us. Have A Magical Holiday Season." |
