Hi, all:
I'm performing at a private birthday party this Saturday. I'm performing in someone's living room for about 20 people. If you have done shows like this before, have your brought your sound system? I know I have enough volume myself to fill a living room without a mic, but I'm thinking that the sound system makes the show a little more special and "professional," if you will. I'm going to need a a system for my show's music. The question is whether to use it for voice as well. And while we're on the subject, do you use your backdrops for tiny venues like this? Thanks. I don't have a backdrop but definitely think it would be overkill for an intimate venue like a house party. I do use my sound though. Vent absolutely has to be heard and understood to be effective, so even at a house party you need the extra volume. People chatting in another room, or the back of the same room, a lot of bodies, maybe tile flooring creating a lot of echos, lots of things can make you hard to hear. The mic gives you the focus, and also the ability to go up and down in volume, accent things, the ability to employ these subtleties helps the comedy. Just keep the volume kind of subtle, louder than normal voice, but not as loud as a DJ would use.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for helping me with my website. I always bring my sound system. A Peavey Escort with a Samson powered speaker as my monitor. If the show area is small, I just use the Samson powered speaker as the main system and leave the Peavey escort in the car. Wanlu

I always use a sound system for all birthday party, regardless of size. You will need it, pal.
We need our voice to be projected, so a PA system will be important. |

I nearly always use a sound system and my backdrop. The back drop covers all the mess in a living room so the audience focuses on you.

I am doing home birthday parties and always use a sound system and a backdrop.
The photos taken look more professional and the type of routine I am using keep the kids screaming so the sound and my voice must have volume to overcome the kids yelling at the top of their lungs. I suggest using a backdrop and a sound system |

I defer to those who actually own a backdrop. Maybe I should look into buying one.

I always use a PA system in my shows. Always. Regardless of audience size. Makes me more in control of my audience.

The Jeff Jones backdrop is fantastic. Because it works on a tripod you canset it to any height, very usefull for houses with low ceilings.

I use my sound system and my Jeff Jones backdrop in houses for parties. I find that having my sound system even in small spaces helps me not to strain my voice. I have started using a waist-pack mic when I do walk-around and that was another GREAT investment! I agree that the Jeff Jones backdrop is AWESOME!!
