My two bobs worth:
Photo Shop: Didn't impress me - the idea of taking things from pictures dates back to Hoffmann! Nothing here (other than the concept of using photos) that can't be achieved with a humble TT, a pull and/or some good old pure sleight of hand. Centrifugal: I learnt something similar back in the 90's when the ITR was fashionable - so WHAT is this DVD bringing new to the art of magic? As David & Craig pointed out (to their credit) it's hardly a worker unless you are doing it as a one off OR have time to reset between performances (which in my experience, isn't very often the case). Stitch: Lacoste shirts? Hahaha. I think this has come out a decade too late - well certainly in Essex! What a pile of absolute sh***! As for the condom 'trick'(?) - I don't think even the boys down the pub would be impressed with such a pointless effect. Also, what's with standing there in a towel showing off your man boobs and beer gut? Is this guy a naturist or was he trying to say it's a good trick for the sauna? If it's the latter, a sauna is probably the last place on this Earth that I'd want to pull out a condom! Note: Firstly, love Matt Sconce's Hitler haircut. Also, what is it with magicians going out to perform looking as if they've been banned from the bathroom for a fortnight? I wasn't impressed with the quick performance clips as you couldn't really see what was happening if I'm honest. It would also be a lot better if Dave & Craig actually PERFORMED the effect(s) rather than just doing Marcel Marceau impressions and talking about it. Apart from 'Note' - which I still don't really understand what the DVD contains, there was nothing that floated my boat. Thanks though Dave & Craig for again putting the effort into these weekly updates but for Heaven sake, there's surely got to be better things coming onto the market than this constant flow of very average 1 trick DVD's? Got to be honest, this wasn't one of your better shows; but sincere thanks anyway. Any chance that we can get back to some book reviews?

Note was the only thing even worth considering this week.Note is a Matt Sconce effect but that is Robert Smith performing and teaching.

I've used condoms "when performing". I haven't ever run any "sex education" sessions with a magic theme (at this point feel free to come up with several effects that would be appropriate or whose names sound relevant and chuckle to yourselves). But I have supported sexual health clinics for youth in the UK as part if a community role I have. During this I have used condoms (amongdt other things) for a few effects, my favourite being one based on Visa Cabaret/3 Choice/Taking Notes where several different kinds of condoms are shown in a wallet. The spec removes them pne at a time from behind my back and places them in different pockets. I then determine which type is in which pocket and lead in to a discussion around safe sex.

Saw the demo on Note sometime ago and then I forgot about it. After seeing it again and watching the review it has now really peaked my interest. Seems like it might possibly lend itself well to making the revelation for Multi Dimesnional, which by the way, I still think is the best purchase I have made....EVER!
As for Stitch it looks painfully obvious to me how it's done, but regardless of that I never wear those types of shirts. Centrifugal looks great, but not for me as I've never felt comfortable with using IT and probably never will. Photoshop seems like it may have some interesting applications but not enough for me to bother as my drawer of “Things I Never Use” is full to the brim already. Quote:

Smith) did the demo/performance, and is also doing teaching on the DVD.

I saw centrifugal performed at LADS. Will be a good one off effect but having done IT work in bars and clubs theres more often than not one drunken idiot who wants to grab whatever is being floated! I had a Tarantula but was very disappointed..it wasnt strong enough to lift any of the rings I tried to float. It's sat in my draw now and a waste of money. It s interesting that there was nothing visible on top of the floating coin in the demo, so not sure how the gimmick is attaching to it ( I only know of wax?)
Note looks good but would have liked to see a demo by Dave or Craig. I have a feeling it may be one of those tricks that looks great on DVD but not in reality? Hope I m wrong because it does look an amzing effect! Re the Iphone number force I have a trick called Icalc that did the force that Dynamo used to force his phone number on somebody. A very simple and poweful tool to use! Stitch is not appealing really and photoshop not my kind of thing really. that's not to say it isn't good though!! Anyway I am still buzzing from my Stand Up Monte!! |

Stitch is a little idea that would be nice if printed in a magic magazine, but a DVD? The description of the effect and the description of the method would be nearly identical. (Or am I missing something?).
Dave seemed to think the sponge Ding Dong is a laughably inappropriate trick buy he likes the condom trick? I still enjoyed the show but don't agree with the review of Stitch and the review of note could have been half as long without losing any content. |

The "TOXIC" formula was introduced to magic by Bob King. Richard Osterland also teaches it on one of his DVDs. I've been doing it on my iPod Touch for a few years now. Is anyone credited?

This show's recommendations leaves me mostly bewildered. I think I am out of step with most of the recommendations. .. oh well. I just received A Book In English and could not be more pleased with what I have learned already. So I am very thankful for that recommendation from last week's show. I also appreciate the work put into this weeks show but not as impressed by most of the effects as Craig & Dave. I should note, I already own Centrifugal and have learned a lot from it. I perform it regularly at a Winery I perform at and it receive great responses. Already looking forward to next weeks show!

Marc DeSouza teaches TOXIC on one of his great dvds with a trick called Baby Hughy..which I immediately put together and it always gets great response.

Stitch needs special props that you wouldn't want to make yourself. It's quite a good effect, actually. I saw it performed live and liked it quite a bit.
Merc Man, plenty of people were untucked polos. I do all the time and I don't consider it out of date. I also see loads of people wearing them.

Based on the clip of Stitch shown I assumed it was something you could make up yourself. If Cameron adds his endorsement to Dave and Craig's there may be a little more to it than I thought.

I'm a bit suspicious of note ---it looks very much like a variation of the old ashes on the palm of the hand trick ---maybe a good idea but is it that much of a move on that it gets worker of the week ?

That's too bad, that Centrifugal is not the solution for performing the Hover Ring effect in walkaround/strolling sets.
If I need to reset every 3rd time then I can use my current hook up instead of a ITR. Thanks for clearing this one up guys!Appreciate that! For Photoshop, well let your creativity lead you to new effects in combination of old effects together with Photoshop. I think its a great way to produce a spongeball. Will Tsai´s patter about being a child and flipping through magazines seeing the adverts there, and you wanted to grab the desired product (i.e. Toys) out of the picture... well is everyone can relate too. So keep that in mind! The balloon effect shown in the trailer is very magical in my mind....something in this way is what I would use Photoshop for. For Stitch...if I had magical powers, would I move the logo around?Nah I would change the whole Tshirt, like in Dresscode by Colen Morelli. |
