Not sure if this is in the right section.
I am looking to purchase a rabbit wringer. Any suggestions on who makes the best version? I know the method. I work up close a lot and want to make sure not to expose it when the front is taken off. Posted: Oct 12, 2011 9:54am Oops, I forgot to mention I work with a very large rabbit.

The conventional Rabbit Wringer doesn't work the way you may think it does...it works like a flip-over box.
How "close" is close and how "big" is your rabbit? Which method would be better/more practical for your conditions? Julie |

Every wringer I know of is a m****r box. I have never see a flip over box that is a wringer. do you have one like this? any pic?
my rabbit is 8-10 pounds.

I have an Abbott one I have never used, but do not know what size rabbit will fit in it. It is a flip-over design.

The rabbit wringer that I use in my act was made by Abbotts. I modified it and repainted and decorated it, but you can see how it works by watching my spot on the Masters of Illusion TV show here:

Abbott's is a modified Jack Gwyene flip over box. I would contact Fairchild Magic is you think you need something larger made.

According to the Fairchild Magic website (as per Richard's suggestion), their version will hold a giant rabbit:

The Daytonna Magic Version is not the flip over box size and will hold a medium sized rabbit. Only probelm is the lid holding the rabbit doesn't "lock" closed so I added a piece of velcro to hold the lid down. It can be done a few feet from the audience. I have used it in library and pre-school shows.

Abbott's used to make a l-a-r-g-e version of the Rabbit Wringer, too. The problem now is Abbott's current questionable "quality craftsmanship" varies greatly from piece to piece...
I own four of pieces of Fairchild apparatus and really like three (wooden) and not too wild about the other (plastic). Probably it's best to see your proposed purchase in person, if possible, before investing. The m----- b-- Rabbit Wringer from Chalet is wonderful, but the purest in me says the flip-over version is more baffling to the audience (especially adults) because it just looks so impossible! Hey thanks Michael, the design is great but I fear the construction is not up to your standards.
The chalk bunny came out looking good, I was able to use dry brush for that. I have been tinkering with the idea of letting people see the bunny being drawn, take a look at this: http://www.dreamfactory.com/magic/bunny11.jpg this is a chalk board that let's me draw the bunny and then pull the finished slate out of the top. is this worth the trouble, or fooling anyone? Also, I've got a method to remove the slate and the bunny picture is missing. Not sure these details are worth the trouble... Opinions? Anyway (i'm not off topic) a rabbit wringer is next. |

I think it is a clever idea. It sounds like you might have the luxury of using that bit or not, as your needs dictate. Some shows you might want to flesh out the routine a bit, and other times, you might just want to get to the heart of it.
BTW - I'm not judging your craftsmanship. It looks good in the photos, and that's what the audience will see in live performance, I suspect. The stuff that I make and actually use myself is no where near the same as the stuff I make to sell. I've spent too many years trouping with props, and they take a beating. So, it's easier to make them either easily touched up or easily replaceable. Theater is an illusion, after all!
