It's awesome. Yes. No.
Either buy betram's stuff and learn it directly or buy Gaston Queito's video "twenty" and watch him tip the method, even though he doesn't really teach it. Queito's video has a lot of great stuff, but he isn't a very good teacher... I would still buy it over oz's video... |

Why not learn it from 'Bertram on sleight of hand'-the original source?

Well I think he was trying to say that I don't own stealing pips and that I shouldn't pass judgement on it without seeing it.
Good point but I wasn't saying that Oz's video was bad. I just am saying that the color change is not worth 30 dollars.. Don't get me wrong it is an amazing color change, but angely. Also I stand by my opinion that I would choose to buy Gaston Queito's video "Twenty" over oz'd dvd even if I hadn't seen either. Twenty has an awesome Mul. shift, teaching the top shot, bertram change, some matrix moves and some really good utility stuff. Most of what I have heard about oz's video is that it is classic stuff redone with new flashy moves and poor crediting. Also with the way penguin has done downloadable magic video's, putting out whatever they want without permission, and have had to take down video's because the CREATOR'S threatened to sue if they didn't take down the thing, all factors in my decision that I would rather get Twenty than Stealing Pips. I am not going to say whether or not stealing pips is a good / bad DVD or how good a magician Oz is. I know Oz has chops and can do some really strong magic. But I think that with what I have seen online both from him and pengiun magic, I would rather not buy stealing pips. Just my Opinion. -MacGyver PS please msg in the future if anyone wants reviews or explanations of my opinions. |

This is an awsome color change, I really like it. It will take some practice, but it's totally worth it!

Is Betram's "twenty" a written source or a video source?

It is Gaston Quieto's video called Twenty. In it, Quieto teaches the Bertram change during his version of reset.

Alex,
I know this is a bit off topic, but Gaston Quieto's Twenty, is very cool. It's a mixture of a bunch of different things. I will try and list the routines by memory: S.N. Cardcase: A card to cardbox presentation. This one is different than the ETMCM one. It's a little more of a routine, than a garnish, so to speak. Call of the Jokers: I don't remember this one. I'll try to watch it again, and add a description. Wild Aces: This involves a very cool Ace production. Hipnosix: This is a great card and coin routine. Three coins are vanished using a plaing card. They are then reproduced under the card, and three more are then produced the same way. Finally a jumbo coin is produced under the card. I like this one, quite a bit. Reverse Matrix: See name. This is a good one, that I have used with success, from time to time. T&R Card: See name. This is not my favorite, though. Check it out, anyway. The rest of the material is very worthwhile. Through and Through: I think this is the highlite of the video. It is a chosen card through a glass table. It is so visual and direct. David Williamson said,"All I can say is now I want to go out and find a glass table." This one really is wonderful. Retest: This is Gaston's handling of Paul Harris' Reset. I like this one, but not necessarily better than the original. It is a good way to go, though. I really enjoyed this video, immediately. I have gone back to it for the coin stuff, from time to time. There are some real nuggets here, especially Through and Through. Let me know what you guys think, if you see it. As far as Oz's stuff goes, I haven't seen his video, but I think his demos show real competence with his techniques, and I'm sure he could teach me a thing or two. Good luck with it Oz, you're quite good. Eric Grossman

Just get "Twenty"
You will be happy you did, it's an older video, but it's totally worth it. You will have to do a bit of rewinding during some of the explainations because Gaeston leaves out some details during the explainations. You can learn everything on the video though. You will be glad you did too. Check out twenty!!! I used to keep quiet about this video because I didn't want other people using this material. It's good stuff. |

The Bertram Change is a great change in the right circumstances, but if you're surrounded, it can't be used. It's limited to stage use, and to very small groups of spectators who are in front of you.
If you are close to the audience, then height is much more of a concern than width. If you are too close and some people are sitting and others are standing, then you can't use this change without flashing. In my opinion, it's definitely worth learning. It looks magical when you can use it. However, you also need to make sure you have an alternative move for any routine that uses this. The alternative doesn't have to be a color change. For example, the second change of an Ace to a Jack in the trick "Reset" by Paul Harris doesn't use a Bertram Color change. It doesn't use a color change at all. However the Bertram Color Change can be used for that. But it is important to know the original move so you can perform it under all circumstances.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

If you are going to use the Bertram change in Reset, I would recommend using it for the last change. Otherwise, you have to put the other cards down just to pick them up later. Just something I wouldn't do.

Hey Trevor,
You might want to take a look at the "Twenty" video and you'll take back what you just said about using the change during reset. |

It is cumbersome and unmotivated to put all the cards down, then get in the right position to cover your angles, then do the change, then turn and pick up the cards again...etc. I think the Bertram Change just doesn't fit well into this routine.
