I am hoping someone can help me recall the name of this close-up illusion.
It was sort of a close-up version of Houdini's water torture escape if you will. A green die was placed in a small crystal tube which was filled with water. The tube was placed on a small round pedestal covered with a gold plastic cover and also a black plastic top placed on top obviously. The die vanished from the water after the gold cover and black top were removed and the green die would appear somewhere else. It was an amazing close-up miracle and I had it. I have not seen it in years misplaced it after moving some time ago. Does anyone recall the illusion, the actual name of it, the manufacturer? Would love to get my hands on one if at all possible but obviously this has been long discontinued. The gimmick is ingenious and it really is a beautiful piece of magic. Thanks. Dave |

First of all, no matter what Henning Nelms said, when you are referring to tricks on a magic forum, if it doesn't involve big stuff, it's not an illusion -- unless it's an optical, auditory or scent illusion.
"Illusion" is a trade-specific term.

Thank you very much, Magic Patagonia! You made my day. Now I my next quest will be to find someone that is willing to sell me one. It is a great piece of magic.
Thank thank you for finding it. I apologize if I used the incorrect term in referring to the trick. I hope no one was offended by my using the term illusion. I stand corrected. Cheers. |

I don't think anyone would be offended by the term "illusion," just confused when they popped in here looking for a stage sized prop with a beautiful girl attached and found a tiny tube instead. However, you could soften the disappointment by performing this trick the way I did many years ago, using that plastic babe from the old "bathtub" trick and a PK ring. For some reason it was called "Blonde in Bathtub" although she was all pink from head to toe and still available: http://www.funinc.com/xcart/product.php?......0&page=1 For the water-filled cylinder you could use a test tube, but I believe I used an epoxy-putty tube at one time, which worked very well (the tubes that epoxy-putty is sold in, not that the tube was made from the putty, although you could mold yourself a "babe" from putty and embed the necessary weight at the same time). No top was needed- just the tube, filled with water, drop in the plastic girl and cover with a paper tube. The doll is attracted to your hand for some strange reason and that's how she makes her escape, first from the water, then from the cover tube, and finally reappears in a card box, or any place convenient. The water makes the trick messy, but more mystifying, although there is no reason why you couldn't do without the water.

Thanks Magic Patagonia. Now my last question and the hardest of them all; where can I find one so that I can be reunited with one of my favorite close-up miracles? If you have that answer, I will be indebted to you for a while.

School administrators liked the demonstration.--and, the kids did, too.
