Hi Larry,
How many routines are performed and taught on the DVD. That's a nice touch to include with the book.

Hi Motown,
There are 44 chapters in the book (368 pages). There are 17 chapters on the DVD. On 15 of them, I perform the routine with the same script that's in the book and then give a detailed explanation on how to do it. For 2 of the chapters, there is an explanation only. The DVD is a little over two hours in length. I chose effects that would benefit from additional visual teaching. Go here to see a photo of the DVD: http://www.barnowskymagic.com/bookofdestinypricelist.html Table of contents: http://www.barnowskymagic.com/bodtoc.pdf Best, Larry |

Craig,
In addition to the book and DVD, Café members will get a free dollar size antique coin and a set of five of the 22mm colored dice shown on a prior post. Note also, I now have available custom gaffed decks for ESP Duel (Ch. 11) and Total Card Control (Ch. 4) in red or blue Bicycle cards. In the book, I teach you how to make up the decks yourself but, I offer these for those who would prefer to buy them already made. Larry |

Continuation of my review: Just learned Fibonacci Flush from Book of Destiny. It's almost self-working but a few basic sleights brings it in the miracle class of card effects. Great story to go along with the trick and the mathematics behind it actually uses the Fibonacci series to make it work.
Another trick I really like is Temporary Color Blindness. As you could guess it involves backs of cards changing color and finally the whole deck. The moves and misdirection built in makes this a winner. The Janus Prediction is also self-working and the spectator does the card handling himself. The prediction works 100% of the time even though the spect. has a free choice up to the end. I've been jumping around throughout the book and have read about 3/4 of it. The material is first rate, very original, and the teaching in the book and on the DVD is superb. I've read Special Effects, Al Schneider's book, The Berglas Book, and Maelstrom. These are fine books but The Book of Destiny exceeds them in its unique content and polished presentation. BJ |

Thanks BJ for your ongoing review. Readers will find a good mixture of effects ranging from the easy and self-working to the more challenging. Each effect is given a difficulty level ranging from one to three diamonds so before you begin to read about it you know the level of difficulty you can expect. I use no impossible moves and everything you need is taught in detail. The DVD complements the book material so learning the routines is much easier.
A few of the chapters use props or gaffs which you can make or get from a magic dealer. I provide them as well at low cost at my website for your convenience. I also have a bundled deal where you can buy a set of props and gaffs as a package when you buy the book or if you prefer after buying it. That's at the bottom of the price list. Larry |

Can someone please describe the penny wise routine?? what does the spectator see as an effect?
|

boxjumper Veteran user 362 Posts |
Daren,
You borrow from the spectator a penny and 2 quarters(or use your own). With no suspicious moves the penny moves from hand to hand and the quarter moves back as well. There are five different sequences where coins appear and disappear. The finale is where they would swear the penny is in the hand but instead a large wooden nickel appears. The gaff does much of the work. Minimal sleights used. Larry gives alternative moves for those who want something easier. He teaches you two ways to make the gaff yourself. I chose to get the gaff from him. The patter he uses is in verse and is easily changed. I actually used his patter word for word. Hope that helps. BJ |

Thanks to all for their generous feedback through emails, PMs, and Magic Café postings. Feel free to contact me regarding questions about the book and DVD through barnowsky1@aol.com or PM me through the Café.
A reader asked me about my next project. I've started writing my fourth book. 5 chapters are completed. I have no target date for completion or publication yet and no title yet. Larry |

Had the Book of Destiny for a month now. I especially enjoy card effects with a mathematical basis. Many cool effects including Look to the Cards, Triple Psychometry, Fibonacci Flush, Sum-traction, and Buried Treasure of Triangle Island. Also enjoyed the Cups and Balls and Curioue Type of Arithmetic (the ball and hat routine). Glad to here about your forthcoming book. Any math oriented stuff in that?

Paul,
Thanks for the post. Glad you like the book. The new book I am working on, like The Book of Destiny, will have quite a bit of mathematically based effects that are easy to do. Don't miss toward the end of The Book of Destiny Aunt Tilly's Will which is not a card effect but a self-working prediction effect with audience participation that also is mathematically based. You can do this close up or on a stage. Larry |

Larry, I will buy this book as soon as I can afford it. I tried to get my wife to buy it for me for Christmas but I struck out.

I have to go no record and say, I just love the 21st Century Coin Mechanics Book. Just the vanishes alone are worth the price of the book. Larry also supplies you with one of his dollar size Chinese coins which are great to practice with. I like them so much I ordered four more! With our a doubt Larry's communication and support with his products are second to none. Working with coins for over 50 years, you are never to old to learn something new and with Larry's Book, you will. It is worth the investment!
Thanks Larry |

I agree with ottphd about 21st Century Coin Mechanics. There are some fabulous moves in that book which I think anyone can learn. In his newest release The Book of Destiny some of those moves are used in a few chapters but they are also taught in the book and taught on video. For example in Penny-wise he teaches the Pivoting Changeover Palm in the book and the video and gives also a non sleight of hand version too. In the Cups and Balls chapter the Flying Changeover Palm Vanish is taught in the book and on the video that comes with Book of Destiny. He also gives an easier alternative. Throughout the book I found that Larry gives options when it comes to sleights and moves so you don't have to give up on a trick because of one move that you may not want to learn. The book is a treasure trove of wonderful magic routines with very original plots.

Thanks Paul and Jim for those positive comments about both books.
The Book of Destiny I believe has something for everyone regardless of skill level. For example, the last trick in the book, Buried Treasure of Triangle Island, is essentially self-working. You need to be able to conceal or palm a coin in your hand and give the spectator clear instructions. That's it. It's one of those effects the spectator will always remember since the magic occurs in his hand, in a way like the sponge ball trick with two balls appearing as the spectator's hand opens. But that's only one climax of the effect. The spectator first picks any site on the island map, determines the coordinates with a ruler, adds those numbers, and counts down in the deck (digging to the depth) to find a card which turns out to be the only treasure card in the deck. The treasure card is found at the numbers the spectator adds up due to a mathematical principle never used in magic before. Best, Larry |

Just saw the learned doctor on TV in Upstate NY doing a promotion for his hospital's new 3 Tesla MRI unit. Very smooth presentation.
Really enjoying this large new book. The folding sequence false shuffle used in chapter 1 Look to the Cards is something that can be used as a utility for different routines. His sponge ball routine is now in my repertoire. The swivel move is very deceptive and easy to do. I've gotten my old cups and balls off the shelf and have started working on the routine in the book. Lots of very good material, well explained in the book and DVD. BJ |

I have this book and it is fantastic. Larry was very helpful about getting the material down to me in Aus. The postage was a big rough but that wasn't his fault. The books are made very nicely and will hold together for a long time. Highly recommended!

Thanks Nathan for the feedback. Glad you like the book. For multi-bookorders like yours I ship as economically as possible and will pay part of the freight myself.
BJ, It was fun doing the TV spot. I had to do it for several different local networks. Several hours taping for less than a minute of airtime. SAVE MONEY: I'll be running from time to time some Magic Café ONLY Specials. One is running now and was announced in Latest and Greatest. go to this link for details about the special deals. Larry |

As I wrote on a different thread:
Mr. B., "Your card effects are spectacular; in the same class as Diaconis, Fulves, Hummer, and other such legends who utilize subtle principles. I do not want to derail this thread, but I feel compelled to give a loud shout-out and highly recommend your two most recent books. The card effects are THAT good" I will add (in this lineage of card effects): Tamariz, Aragon...
"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |
